Nancy's Notes: Driving Through Hill Country
http://nancyoster.blogspot.com/2012/02/driving-through-hill-country.html
Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Driving Through Hill Country. We chose a route through the hill country because for the most part we like taking the small black roads better than the thick red ones on the map. There are more interesting places to stop like this one. Rolling in Thyme and Dough. Is located at the side of the road in Dripping Springs. A cozy bakery cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. They also sell plants to brighten up your yard. I wanted to stop at Wildseed Farms. We were not disappointed...

Nancy's Notes: June 2010
http://nancyoster.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 22, 2010. Deuble Ancestors in Treschklingen. Wolfgang offered to take us to the village of Treschklingen on our drive back to Berlin from Mannheim. My grandmother's dad was a Deuble. I'd found Treschklingen, on a birth record in 1798 for our immigrant ancestor, George Michael Deuble. Wolfgang and Andrea got out the map and found the town. It was sort of on our way. if we left early (or drove fast enough) to accommodate the extra miles. Treschklingen is about an hour southeast of Mannheim.

Nancy's Notes: May 2010
http://nancyoster.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Friday, May 28, 2010. Our first morning in Mannheim we walked up the street to the bakery to stock up for the weekend. Wolfgang bought a little of everything. We went back to the apartment for coffee and pastries and then went back to buy more. My favorite was the apple tart. There were two versions. One with apples diced into small cubes, and one with larger pieces made from local apples. I liked them both. Our first stop when we got into town was a chocolate shop called St. Anna's No. 1. There is a dis...

Nancy's Notes: Gusty Winds
http://nancyoster.blogspot.com/2012/02/gusty-winds.html
Wednesday, February 29, 2012. The forecast icon on my iPhone switched from snow to cloudy but there's no icon for wind. The wind started when we hit I-40 at Amarillo and moved westward. In Bushland, we passed rapidly spinning wind mills, forests of them. It wasn't difficult to figure out why there were placed here. A lot of oil derricks in this area too. We took a few Route 66 detours but most of the businesses were boarded up. We arrived at Dave's sister's in Santa Fe at about 2:30. A Day in Santa Fe.

Starlight Mouse Tales: October 2009
http://starlightmice.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
A documentary on the spread of the Starlight mice. Sunday, October 18, 2009. Eating Local in Santa Barbara. Since I began writing for Edible Santa Barbara Magazine. The Starlight mice have quietly been keeping tabs on what I'm doing. You can see them here, checking out the Fall issue, which contains my article. On local honeybees. (Although they seemed to be more interested in the glob of honey pictured on the cover than in reading my article.). When they realized how little of what is in our pantry come...

Starlight Mouse Tales: OSU Tailgate Party
http://starlightmice.blogspot.com/2008/11/osu-tailgate-party.html
A documentary on the spread of the Starlight mice. Friday, November 21, 2008. My cousin Peg reads our blog regularly, so she knew about the spread of the Starlight Mice. But you can imagine her surprise when she arrived early for a football game at Ohio State University to discover that these Starlight Mice had arrived earlier and had chosen the best seats. They'd already had a little wine and cheese and were warmed up and ready for the game. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). To Order a Starlight Mouse.

Starlight Mouse Tales: May 2010
http://starlightmice.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
A documentary on the spread of the Starlight mice. Monday, May 3, 2010. Starlight Mice in Berlin. While the trip in checked luggage was a bit grueling (and we thought we had it bad in economy coach), our three Starlight mice arrive ears intact. Apparently the x-ray of my bag didn't trigger a security check. Simone, Greta, and Alfred. The mice were still safely packed in their box when I unpacked my luggage, but I can tell you that they were eager to explore our apartment once we released them. If you dis...

Nancy's Notes: January 2006
http://nancyoster.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 19, 2006. It snowed a lot more during the night after our snow day, but the next morning we caught an early bus to the train station and took a train to Hiroshima. Looking out the window of the train at the blanket of snow covering the cities we passed through, we were quite happy to be in the warm train. Even the train had to slow down at one point to maintain traction on the frozen tracks. Jeff and Dave drove to the hardware store to find a shovel, since it is customary for each homeo...

http://starlightmice.blogspot.com/2008/10/portugal.html
A documentary on the spread of the Starlight mice. Sunday, October 26, 2008. Recognizing that their second Starlight mouse needed a little sunshine, Lucy and Bill invited her to join them on a visit to sunny Portugal. (Their other mouse preferred to stay in Belgium to explore rain-soaked streets and alleyways with Jolie, his new cat friend. quite adventurous for a bread dough mouse). And she found a really cool looking rock right nearby to sit on. So Lucy could take her picture. To Order a Starlight Mouse.
