Beats - St Boswells

May and June sees good numbers of Yellow May Duns and some large trout often fall to well presented imitations at these times. There are several good grayling streams on Upper Mertoun and during the last two winters several grayling have been tagged here, remember if you catch one to report it to the Trout and Grayling Initiative's Biologist Kenny Galt. kgalt@tweedfoundation.org.uk. Our bottom beat and one which can often produce some good sport. It has an interesting mix of glides, riffle and pools.

Therefor first to book and pay will be allocated a boat. If more anglers wish to attend. Further boats will be booked if. Tweed Trout and Grayling Initiative. A proportion of all tickets sold by the club goes to support the initiative. Club members also contribute a lot of time carrying out fly surveys, tagging exercises, habitat work. You can also get involved by contacting the initiatives Biologist, Kenny Galt on. Or by emailing kgalt@tweedfoundation.org.uk. Club members spend time maintaining the habitat of the area. Pictures here show how a burn mouth was cleared of flood debri. After clearing work was carried out.

Grayling Fishing - St Boswells

The Tweed is well renowned for its superb grayling fishing. The season at St Boswells runs from 1st December - 31st January and the 15th June to the 30th September. Grayling to large sizes can be caught and every year a few grayling in the 50cm 3lb size range are reported. The average size is 1lb-1.5lb. Or by email to kgalt@tweedfoundation.org.uk. In the winter it is important that anglers avoid areas where Salmon have (or are) spawning. A tagged grayling is returned to the water.
