Monday, 29 October 2007. Thanks for the Memory. Bob Hope, 1903-2003. I recently visited the Bob Hope Theatre. In Eltham, near my former home in south-east London, where Bob was born in 1903.The theatre was closed on the day of my visit but I received a warm welcome from staff who reminded me of the support they received over the last two decades from the famous entertainer, who died last year. 169; 2004 Arthur Loosley. UK Heritage & Nostalgia: A Restored Picture Palace
http://uk-heritage.blogspot.com/2007/10/restored-picture-palace.html
Friday, 26 October 2007. A Restored Picture Palace. In my childhood we did not speak of the 'cinema' but the 'Picture Palace', and the opulent façades of these buildings matched their fanciful names. Sadly, most are now gone, but a few have been lovingly restored by volunteers. ANGLIAN WRITER (aka Wordrover). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Thanks for the Memory. After a busy working life in journalism and education, I am now enjoying a peaceful retirement in a beautiful area of coast and country, where I divide my time between writing and photography. UK Heritage & Nostalgia: Playing Soldiers or Preserving History?
http://uk-heritage.blogspot.com/2007/10/playing-soldiers-or-preserving-history.html
Friday, 26 October 2007. Playing Soldiers or Preserving History? I took this photograph at Landguard Fort in Felixstowe, Suffolk which guarded the East Coast of England and two major river estuaries from the time of Henry VIII until the military finally moved out in the 1950s. Army, Navy, Marines and the Royal Air Force have all occupied the fort at various times. Fast-forward to July 2007, when this new diesel locomotive at the Port of Felixstowe was named in the captain's memory. Thanks for the Memory.
