Musings on Life in Hong Kong

Musings on Life in Hong Kong. Monday, August 10, 2015. Umbrella Movement - One Year On 傘開以後. Yesterday, on the street in Mongkok, my attention was drawn to some thing yellow. It turned out to be a promotion for a RTHK program: Umbrella Movement - One Year On. People are invited to post their thoughts about the Umbrella Movement on their board, and to take a photograph with their props. Some are also asked to record their thoughts, presumably to be included in the broadcast later. Labels: Hong Kong people.

Musings on Life in Hong Kong: October 2014

http://stephencfchan.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Musings on Life in Hong Kong. Friday, October 31, 2014. Do people become stupid when they join the (HK) government? The answer, apparently, is YES. Otherwise how else can you explain some of the inane logic as exhibited by some of our government officials? Are the Occupiers less deserving than convicted criminals? He is not that stupid after all. He was just trying to please his master - to whom he has sold his soul. I don’t know which is worse. Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Where is Faith when we need it?

Musings on Life in Hong Kong. Saturday, February 28, 2015. Preparation for this year’s "Technology Beyond Borders" service-learning projects have started in earnest. We installed two small scale solar power systems at two schools in Rwanda. Half a year later, they are still operating. So we can confirm that the design works. The students are now given workshops on basic electricity, solar power, and … basic electrical and mechanical skills such as sawing, deburring, … soldering, …. You can get yourself p...

Musings on Life in Hong Kong: Hong Kong People

http://stephencfchan.blogspot.com/2015/08/hong-kong-people.html

Musings on Life in Hong Kong. Thursday, August 06, 2015. Here are some of the people I saw on the streets in Hong Kong on a very hot day. They are all somewhat odd in some way, yet very Hong Kong from another perspective. On Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, a man was loudly scolding someone whom nobody else can see. In Yaumatei, a youngish man seemed to be enjoying himself, even though he was probably living on the street. A Caucasian lady was eating shu mai (燒賣) while crossing the street, just like a local.

Musings on Life in Hong Kong: History lesson in Zhanjiang (湛江)

http://stephencfchan.blogspot.com/2015/08/history-lesson-in-zhanjiang.html

Musings on Life in Hong Kong. Monday, August 03, 2015. History lesson in Zhanjiang (湛江). I went to Zhanjiang to attend a wedding. It was a wonderful wedding, as expected. What I did not anticipate was that I also got a vivid lesson in history. First of all, Zhanjiang is 湛江 in Guangdong 廣東省, not Zhenjiang 鎮江 in Jiangsu 江蘇省. In the late Ching Dynasty, China was so weak that many countries, mostly European, were grabbing pieces of it. In 1898 France “leased” Zhanjiang from China. I had actually learned this...

Musings on Life in Hong Kong: Wing Lee Street (永利街)

http://stephencfchan.blogspot.com/2010/03/wing-lee-street.html

Musings on Life in Hong Kong. Sunday, March 21, 2010. Wing Lee Street (永利街). Wing Lee Street has become the most famous street in Hong Kong, thanks to the movie Echoes of the Rainbow (歲月神偷). I have not seen the movie. Not that I don’t want to, I just haven’t got the time yet. But I have been to Wing Lee Street with my wife. Even though it is surrounded by high rises from all sides. There is even an old market that is now used for recreation. And be updated with the newest information posted here. Individ...

SorLo (傻佬): I am a runner

http://gkz.blogspot.com/2011/12/i-am-runner.html

Wednesday, December 07, 2011. I am a runner. I've been running since October. Having great fun. Feeling good to call myself a runner. Should I call myself a runner? How many kilometers must I have run to be a runner? They give, and they become philanthropists, educators, patrons of art and supporters of scientific discoveries. Killer, painter, runner - really liked your analogy. And your new template. Very nice (but so different I thought I was in the wrong blog :P). You read websites dedicated to it.
