Steve's Not Nice: August 2007
http://stevesnotnice.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 23, 2007. I’ve been teaching my older son to drive so I’m confronted by questions of patience and understanding and calmness a lot more these days. My patience and understanding and calmness with my son are pretty easy most of the time. He’s almost never done anything that could have turned dangerous! He’s pretty careful so we wait until the road is. Clear before going, and he sees other drivers rushing up and pushing their way in so he slows down to avoid the commotion. Him to see it, b...

Steve's Not Nice: July 2007
http://stevesnotnice.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 28, 2007. An online news story today discusses the widely varied sentences for parents who leave their very young children unattended in hot cars, resulting in death. Mothers are punished more severely than fathers, and paid caregivers are more likely to be prosecuted and punished than parents. Only about half the cases are prosecuted, because it is nearly always accidental, but half are seen as victims themselves and the other half as perpetrators by neglect. By punishing caregivers more ...

Steve's Not Nice: March 2008
http://stevesnotnice.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 26, 2008. Underdogs and. Overwhats? I found this insidious trait inside recently. Previously it seemed like a good thing, a noble thing. But it has a darker side. I root for underdogs. It seems kind of like the American thing to do. Well, except when the modern American military takes on Iraq or Afghanistan or rebels in Kosovo. But that's a totally, completely different thing. I think. I like to root for the underdog in sports. But I realized recently I mostly root against. I didn't nece...

Steve's Not Nice: March 2007
http://stevesnotnice.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 27, 2007. My 8-yr-old son was excited for me to get an iMac computer when my previous computer became part of the silver set- you know, a touch of arthritis, a little vertigo, questions about Alzheimers, and problems with lumbago and rutabaga. Why would he care? First, because the store had iMacs set up just for kids, with games they could play, placed on low tables with kid-sized chairs. Posted by Steve Coxsey. Monday, March 26, 2007. Just slow down and enjoy today for a while. I'm pretty...

Steve's Not Nice: November 2007
http://stevesnotnice.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 5, 2007. I’m Not Very Kind, Either. I like the idea of unabashed honesty. It appeals to the side of me that detests false praise, artificial sweetness, and glad-handing salesmen. It’s the voice of the little boy yelling, “The Emperor has no clothes! 8221; It’s the voice of sanity and reason. What is “brutally honest? 8221; If the truth is so brutal that revealing it will cause pain, how should we judge withholding that truth? The Road Less Traveled. This leads me to the very difficult re...

Steve's Not Nice: January 2008
http://stevesnotnice.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 18, 2008. I started this blog when I was beginning to blog, write, and post a lot about coaching, positive counseling, and growth. All the hope, optimism, and “can do” energy of personal development roused my shadow monster, that grouchy cynic. I didn’t want to give the accidental impression that I’m all goodness and light. Hell, I didn’t even want to be thought of. As goodness and light. When people call me “nice” my first reaction is to fear I have misled them—terribly. I wanted a place...
