Lifelong learning in studio glass art. 8220;The report of my death was an exaggeration”. One of the best ways to gain a following is to publish regularly, so that those who like your writing will find something new every time they visit. The converse is also true: neglecting your blog for months is a sure fire way to alienate your readers, because it suggests that you’ve given up, you no longer care, and if you don’t, why should they? There’s a lot of ground to cover. I’ve also continued to sell my...

Lifelong learning in studio glass art. The fine line between inspiration and intimidation. The concert was great: fiddler Winnie Horan (my favorite celtic fiddler) had broken her collarbone about 10 days before, but it hardly slowed her down. She plays with blazing speed, and the heart and soul of a gypsy. I’m still working on bezel mounted pieces, but in the meantime here are a few photos and links to the glass artists carried by Blue Spiral1. Thor and Jennifer Bueno. John Littleton and Kate Vogel.

Lifelong learning in studio glass art. What’s that lurking under the floor? I said a few weeks ago that I would write about activities that are consuming a lot of my time and energy, even if they’re not glass related. Perhaps a better way to say it is I’ll either write about my glass craft, or write about what’s pulling me away from my craft. For the last few weeks that’s been rotten wood. The neverending todo list. Just a few rotten floorboards, no big deal. It’s usually worse than you think…. Rollair &...

The Way That You Should Go - Thomas McGreevy

The Way That You Should Go. Posted by Thomas McGreevy. Orange Path – Leonid Afremov. We spent some time with good friends last night and, as often happens when parents of young children gather, our conversation turned to the topic of our kids. We talked about their future. We talked about their education. We wondered about how to lead them so they go on to live lives of significance and deep meaning. Consider this permission to walk it you’re going to have to fight for it. Yes, good points Ernie! Good to...

The power of instant capture. GTD and the concept of context →. February 26, 2015 · 4:49 pm. Elegy for a dead world. This is in the category of breaking news, because I just discovered it and haven’t really dug into yet, but I’m sharing it now for those interested in writing, particularly my friends in the Your Turn Challenge. DISCLAIMER: this has the potential to consume a lot of your time, though you may find it rewarding and even productive. The power of instant capture. 3 responses to “. One addendum...

Newer posts →. February 24, 2015 · 11:34 am. The power of instant capture. Setting aside the privacy concerns (they were in the military after all…) as I got older I frequently wished for instant recall: the ability to augment my feeble memory with a replay of earlier events (even what I’d just missed on the radio). I love the rewind on DVRs for the same reason. The keys for any capture system are. It has to be reasonably accurate (saving the original recording or image for reference is a plus). When I w...

Shut up and write. Getting serious and personal about blogging →. March 4, 2015 · 3:24 pm. Dealing with difficult people. So when I left my last position to open my own business, with no coworkers, bosses or employees, I thought I’d never have to deal with “jerks” again. If somebody rubbed me the wrong way, I just wouldn’t do business with them. Here are some tips I’ve used effectively in dealing with annoying people:. 1) You can’t change them. 2) Consider behavior styles. 3) Consider occupational roles.

It is better by noble boldness to run the risk of being subject to half of the evils we anticipate than to remain in cowardly listlessness for fear of what might happen. I chose that quote for my yearbook entry senior year (class of 77), and then missed photo day. Whenever I hesitate because of fear, or because I haven’t figured out exactly what the best approach would be, I try to remember the wisdom of Herodotus. As Nike would say 2500 years later, “Just do it”. Toyota land cruisers and other old things.

Dealing with difficult people →. March 1, 2015 · 9:40 am. Shut up and write. Dad was a professor of Geography (at LSU for the bulk of his career) and he’d seen students struggle with the shift from taking classes and qualifying exams to completing a major research project and then writing it up. He’d observed that those who talked the most about their plans and their writing seemed to have to most trouble finishing. Writing coach and teacher Judy Bridges wrote a book in 2011 titled. 8220;Shut up and writ...
