Stitches Of The Past

Stitches Of The Past. Saturday, June 21, 2014. I was beyond excited when I found out this month's theme day at school was 1950's. Totally up my alley and I'd just been waiting for my day to shine. :p I mentally examined my 'vintage' wardrobe. Nothing popped out as something I would be interested wearing. lol Yeah that's me. The skirt was 3 panels the full width of my fabric so probably around 125" circumference. Simply gathered at the waist. I set my hair in sponge rollers the night before. I was ext...

Stitches Of The Past. Saturday, October 19, 2013. The Tale of A Wedding: Clothing The Men. I like to think I am fully responsible for all that hotness, but lets face it.there's some good looking dudes right there. I started with the simplest bit first. The Ties. I found the perfect for skinny tie pattern on Pinterest. Which can be found here. In hind sight.go with the original instructions. You'll end up with a more professional looking tie. For the vest we finally choose Vogue 7488. The only real issue ...

Stitches Of The Past. Saturday, July 13, 2013. Nother 1860's Civilian Waistcoat. The front is silk taffeta, as requested, from Pure Silks. It was my first time ordering from them. I was very impressed with the quality of the material as well as with the shipping time. It was coming from India and I only had 2 weeks from the day ordered till I needed to ship the finished product. And it got here with time to spare. Gotta love those covered buttons! It has all the same credentials (pattern-wise) as this one.

Sewing Room Tales: August 2014

http://sewingroomtales.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, August 30, 2014. If you will recall, sometime ago, I made a post entitled Books. Wherein I recommended a few books that I love. Well, this is sort of in the same series thingy! It's Music. (but you already knew that right? So, all I listen to right now is folkish and vintage (read 40's type) and Christian music. Mostly the latter. So here are my absolute favourite Christian bands! Pretty much any Scottish or Irish songs I like. and lots of '40's. I don't really have favourites of those). Haha Y...

Monday, June 9, 2014. Modest Swimsuit: Into My World of Draping, Part II. It's been a while, and my second draping post is long overdue! So lets get started. This is the finished product. First, you'll put on a tight shirt/cami/blah that you can pin fabric to. Like so:. Mark center bust down to waist, neckline, and shoulder seam, (about middle of neckline? Where my thumbs are). Then take the straight edge of another scrap of material, and pin it to the edge of the first piece, on your body. Since there a...

Sewing Room Tales: December 2015

http://sewingroomtales.blogspot.com/2015_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, December 13, 2015. Update on the Anne Girl Wedding Gown. I have the skirt completed (overskirt that is. still have to make the under one which will be attached with the overskirt at the waist), the bodice completed (except for ruffles around the neck, and cuffs need to be done). The skirt has over 540 inches of ruffles on it gathered into 180". I've sewn everything by hand. Needless to say, it was a blast! I watched the Civil War series by Ken Burns while I did it :). Saturday, September 19, 2015. The Anne Shirley Highwayman/Wedding Dress. Well, it's pretty much Anne Shirley's dress she quotes the Highwayman in, but its also a little different.". That pretty much describes my project! D But I'll go into more detail for the benefit of prettiness and fluffiness minded readers! Here is one little idea which it is going to be hugely based off of! This is a doll pattern but. I can make my own patterns. This is basically Anne Shirley's Highwayman dress! The Anne Shirley Hig...

Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Can't believe that school is going to start in a couple of weeks! Some days it feels like the days are going so slow, and then other days you're running around like a chicken with its head cut off thinking, what have I been doing this whole time? Been doing a couple loads of straw and hay. Thankfully it was on one of the cooler days! Sam and one out of the four cows he owns. This little beauty I got to watch for a week while her owners were away. Such a sweetie!
