2nd grade social studies. Thursday, December 15, 2016. The first graders are planning and participating in the school liturgy on Wednesday, December 21. Your child will have an "assignment" for the liturgy. Please look for a special note in their take-home folder today. As always, you are invited to attend the school liturgy at 9:15 am. December 15, 2016. This week we read and discussed an informational text called Talking Tools. We took the chapter 4 test over two-digit addition and started a new chapter over two-digit subtraction. So far students have used the "break apart" strategy to subtract a one or a two-digit number from a two-digit number, modeled two-digit subtraction with regrouping, and recorded two-digit subtraction using the standard algorithm. November 10, 2016. This week we read and discussed Splash Photography. And Jellies: The Life of a Jellyfish. We took the chapter three test over basic facts and relationships and started chapter four over two-digit addition. So far students have found a sum by breaking apart a one-digit addend to make a two-digit addend and a multiple of 10, and used compensation to develop flexible thinking for two-digit addition.
