St Margaret's Chapel. And Royal Magdalene Almshouses. 700 years ago this delightful and peaceful garden would have been inside the original hospital building, which was barn-like in construction. Here is a finger labyrinth, courtesy of a generous donation. Thanks to a team of dedicated garden volunteers there is a sensitive planting scheme that gives visitors something to enjoy all year round. Beyond the gate at the bottom of the garden there is a secret garden, an unexpected delight.

St Margaret's Chapel. And Royal Magdalene Almshouses. The first almshouse is intended to be a re-creation of an original almshouse but is not yet complete. The elevated section is a replica of the bedroom floor. After the dissolution of the monasteries, the roof was removed and two rows of almshouses built. The almshouses were financed with grants from the Crown. By 1958 they were considered derelict and one row was demolished. New flatlets were built in the old garden (and are still there).

St Margaret's Chapel. And Royal Magdalene Almshouses. The chapel has been sympathetically restored, this included renewing one of the two west windows. El has features dating to the 13th and 15th centuries although the lancet window at the East end may be earlier. The chapel is sited slightly off-centre in relation to the almshouses. The chapel was recently completely restored in 2012. And her heir, King David gave money to establish a number of [Magdalene] almshouse complexes in England near monasteries.
