"Finding Your Voice" by Skip Rohde - Skip Rohde
http://www.skiprohde.com/finding-your-voice.html
Development of a Painting. When starting out as a new artist, almost all of us are heavily influenced by others. We look to more experienced artists as teachers, mentors, or examples. They give us a path to follow that gets us started down our own creative road. It’s a rare individual who charts their own course from the very beginning. As we get more experienced, however, there’s often a point where we wonder, “Where do I go from here? The reason is that I was painting what. Wanted. Not what. Rdquo; Tha...

The Kitchen Dispatch: August 2012
http://kitchendispatch.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 17, 2012. Aloha BabaTim. Free Range International Goes Dark. The iconic photo of my friend BabaTim. I hate it when friends stop writing. I don't mean letters, but on their blogs, which have become touchstones for me. A good blog is like a boulder that one can come back to and it will always be there. But one day, they file their final post:. I feel like I did when Kurt Vonnegut hit his head on the curb and died. Very suddenly, the boulder isn't there anymore. Brings this stuff to funerals.

"Portraits from Iraq" by Skip Rohde - Skip Rohde

Development of a Painting. Iraq is filled with so many different people. There are the Sunnis, Shiites, and Kurds. There are kids and old people. There are modern trend followers and staunch traditionalists. There are Iraqis, Americans, and people from all over the world. Here are just a few of the people that I encountered during my year and a half in Baghdad.". Click on images to enlarge. All images and writings 2016 Skip Rohde.

"Meditation on War" by Skip Rohde - Skip Rohde
http://www.skiprohde.com/meditation-on-war.html
Development of a Painting. War is one of humanity's most defining experiences. Through the ages, we have spent much of our time and focus on events on the battlefield. Today, movies show the chaos, violence, and confusion of combat. News reporters dash in and out of war zones, giving us 30-second snippets before cutting to a commercial. In our fast-paced world, we don't pay attention to anything unless it's equally fast-paced. Click on images to enlarge. All images and writings 2016 Skip Rohde.

Landscape Paintings by Skip Rohde - Skip Rohde
http://www.skiprohde.com/landscapes.html
Development of a Painting. I find landscape paintings to be liberating. There's usually no carefully thought-out narrative, no ulterior motive, just the enjoyment of trying to capture the essence of a particular place at a particular time. Most are small alla prima paintings, meaning that they were done in one session. And they're very much about paint handling. Seeing a batch of colors gradually become a living thing is exciting.". Dreams of an Artist: Wintertime Trees
http://www.artdreamerdesigns.com/2008/01/wintertime-trees.html
Dreams of an Artist. Some of Shea Holliman's Art and Thoughts. Monday, January 7, 2008. I also did this one. IT is a stretched canvas. Not too big, not too small. I was experimenting with painting with the same paint as the post below. It wasn't meant to be quite as abstract as it turned out to be. Painting the trees in the evening as the sun and light were dying, the paint ran somewhat. If nothing else it is interesting I suppose. Just stopping back by to say "hello" and thanks for the post! ASC) is a f...
