Story Time with Seynabou

Story Time with Seynabou. View my complete profile. Saturday, December 3, 2011. Well, I think I was a part of the biggest family Thanksgiving I've ever been to. Now, I wasn't with my family, but have you ever had that place that is your home away from home? That was where I was. And, though I missed my family and would have loved to have celebrated the holiday with them, I was so thankful to have a "family" away from home to celebrate with. How beautiful the Body of Christ! Then, there was nap time. ...

Story Time with Seynabou: Spreading the Good News

Story Time with Seynabou. Spreading the Good News. View my complete profile. Saturday, September 18, 2010. Spreading the Good News. Today I went to visit my Senegalese family, and I took some candy to share. I actually brought some Dum-Dums back from the states to give them right after I got back but decided to wait until after Ramadan to bring out the goodies. Here's what I saw. That first little boy received something that was really good, a sucker. He wasn't just happy to have his own sucker, ...I thi...

Story Time with Seynabou. View my complete profile. Saturday, October 23, 2010. Our school went on a staff retreat several weeks ago to a nice hotel and just hung out for the weekend. It was great to get to spend some time with people away from school. You can learn so many things about other people and yourself. This is not, however, the end of the story. After I got up, I realized that the table top had come off of its stand. Well, what do you do about that? Uh-oh, I broke the table. What do I do?

Story Time with Seynabou. View my complete profile. Sunday, November 29, 2009. We ate, had a time of worship through music and a devotion, then ate some more, played some games, and left. I spent the remainder of the day with the McIntires, not wanting to go home and sit alone. All in all, it was a good day, but it was very different. Unfortunately, I was also reminded of some other things that weren't so pleasant. (Thank you, Shane! It's great to feel loved! After eating, I just sat back and relaxed&#46...

Story Time with Seynabou. View my complete profile. Sunday, April 25, 2010. Pop has grown so much since I first came in August. It's been fun to watch him grow and change. He'll be walking in no time. The past couple of weeks I've gotten to visit my Senegalese family with friends. It's been great to introduce some of my friends from school to my family and to Senegalese culture. I love watching people enjoy being here. Even with the language barrier, we can all laugh and have a good time. In many ways I ...

Poverty Triumphant: June 2013

http://povertytriumphant.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Friday, June 28, 2013. I am so in awe and blessed as this whirlwind week comes to an end. It started with a great trip up north with my family for my cousin's wedding. We mixed in some hikes and cave exploration on the way to break up the 16 hour drive. Then, on the way home, started the "provision" part of this post. The blessings just started pouring out for our trip to Malawi! Let me list some of the awesomeness for you :-). 1 The cost of our trip got lowered! Can't wait to see what's next! I follow H...

Poverty Triumphant: July 2013

Tuesday, July 30, 2013. A Walk Through Malawi. This is the first trip I have been on, since starting my blog, that I haven't been able to post while out of country. It was a little weird. And since this blog is as much for myself as anyone else, can I walk you through Malawi? Sing a song and she will light up. My heart melted as I sat down next to her. Tuesday, July 9, 2013. As I find myself ready to leave for yet another trip overseas, I find myself often being asked, once again, the question I have str...

Poverty Triumphant: April 2014

http://povertytriumphant.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 17, 2014. Two Passions: My story. I found myself loving the kids I worked with, the families I met through them, the community these families formed together. This work led me to pursuing pediatrics in my nursing career where I got to learn more about these kids and continue to interact with them during some of their more challenging periods of life. I was hooked. This, more than most things, is what broke my heart. Long story short: I'm going back, but not with empty hands.

Poverty Triumphant: What do you do?

http://povertytriumphant.blogspot.com/2013/08/what-do-you-do.html

Tuesday, August 20, 2013. What do you do? What do you do when you come home from Africa? What do you say? What do you do? How do you fit yourself back into the person you were before? I've done this 5 times now. You'd think I'd know the answer. You miss the faces, the little hands in yours, the smiles, the hugs, the love. You cherish the relationships you built with your team and partners overseas. You marvel at the memories of selflessness and the giving spirits of those who have nothing by our standards.

Poverty Triumphant: Malawian Fingerprints

http://povertytriumphant.blogspot.com/2013/08/malawian-fingerprints.html

Monday, August 5, 2013. There's a song that talks about love. It talks about looking at the world, at people, through love's eyes. It's an interesting concept; looking at love as a person instead of just an idea or feeling. Part of the song goes like this:. I see what I made in your mother's womb. I see the day I fell in love with you. I see your tomorrows; nothing left to chance. I see my Father's fingerprints! We made crafts, children and adults alike, that were hung proudly in huts all over central Ma...

Wednesday, September 3, 2014. These kids are His children. These kids were made for unique and important purposes. These kids were born into lives with immense challenges that many of us will never encounter. These kids smile. Everyday. And laugh and dance and sing. Not despite the struggles their stories contain, but in the midst of them. These kids also cry. Some shout, some act out, some want to give up sometimes. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Storytime with Petey

Stories and musings from the life of Petey. Sunday, July 26, 2015. My search for truth. I was the kid who read encyclopedias for fun. I still am, although my status as a kid is up for debate. Encyclopedias offered a wealth of information on virtually any subject I could think of. I loved school (well, I loved the parts of school that had to do with learning). To me, the world was full of wonder and books and school allowed me to explore that world. Or the Introduction to the Book of Mormon. But my confid...
