Straightfork Farm

Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Rowdy was being his typical photogenic self this morning. Speaking of Rowdy, the laceration under his eye is almost healed up, just as I thought it would be. He just has a line where there is no hair. I am very relieved it has healed so well and I will NEVER leave a wheelbarrow where it does not belong again. Cria shenanigans. Always cute. This is Trillium's cria. She continues to nurse from both her mother and her great-grandmother. She's a pistol. The 3 males have a building...

Straightfork Farm: January 2015

http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 29, 2015. This past weekend we woke up to a few inches of heavy wet snow. When the snow coats everything like this it is so pretty. And as the dogs and I walked down the road to do our morning chores. The wind was coming through and making brief mini white-outs. As it blew the snow off the tree branches. Speaking of wildlife, I had the good fortune to finally see one of the beavers that have dammed up the creek on Wayne National Forest that I walk by several times a week! And as I was s...

Straightfork Farm: The Hay is in the Barn

http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-hay-is-in-barn.html

Thursday, July 30, 2015. The Hay is in the Barn. Grover likes to try to scare the male alpacas by jumping up and down and barking at them while holding onto the gate. It's quite comical. As you can see, they are not frightened in the least. Yes, second cutting hay is in the barn. Though we have not cut our upper hayfield, which yields only a fraction of what the lower field produces. We may cut it later in August to give it more time to grow. I finished a couple of projects in the last week. First wa...

Straightfork Farm: June 2015

http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 25, 2015. I Can't Believe July is Almost Here. Sunday was Father's Day, and we spent a quiet day at home. Sam picked a couple gallons of raspberries and I made a pie. The berries are wonderful this year, due to all the rain, I think. I also made raspberry chocolate chip ice cream, which we took turns churning on the deck after we had cocktails at the pond with the dogs and before we enjoyed a steak dinner. It was fabulous ice cream. I found the recipe on line:. I really like the new fabric...

Straightfork Farm: Summer is Flying By

http://straightforkfarm.blogspot.com/2015/08/summer-is-flying-by.html

Thursday, August 6, 2015. Summer is Flying By. No photos of the dogs this week? So I thought I'd post Thomas the barn cat keeping an eye on things from a safe height in the hay loft. The corn is doing fabulous. It loved the wet weather followed by the dry sunny weather. I just hope we can get it all harvested before the raccoons find it. There are some quite large ones and even one hanging on the fence. Sam has been spending hours and hours getting this little Farmall tractor running. He bought it a ...

Through My Kaleidoscope: April 2015

http://throughmykaleidoscope-julie.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 21, 2015. What's In the Stash and Off the Needles. Wow, we are already way past the the end of the first quarter of the year! I had been planning to post updates about the progress of my stash busting goals on a quarterly basis, and here I am, already three weeks late. Even though I'm late, the news is good: I was extremely moderate in my yarn purchases. I told you about my stash additions at Stitches West and Madrona in this post. Take a look below and see:. All links are to my Ravelry pr...

Through My Kaleidoscope: A Goal Accomplished

http://throughmykaleidoscope-julie.blogspot.com/2013/12/a-goal-accomplished.html

Sunday, December 1, 2013. 321/365: Winter Twilight Mitts. A photo by jchants - Catching up. Remember my annual goals post last January? Item number 3 on the list was to improve my stranded knitting skills by knitting either the Fireweeds socks or the Winter Twilight Mitts. Look what I finished on November 17: the Winter Twilight Mitts! It's so satisfying to meet my goals. Goals for the year. December 3, 2013 at 9:56 AM. And they are phenomenal! You must be very proud! Through My Kaleidoscope: July 2015

http://throughmykaleidoscope-julie.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 25, 2015. Christmas in July (Or: My 2015 Stranded Knitting Project). For the past few years, I have picked a pattern and knit a stranded knitting project each year. You may remember seeing my Shades of Purple Beret. 2014), my Winter Twilight Mitts. 2013) and my Slow and Steady Selbu Modern. 2012) here on the blog. This year I was tossing around several ideas for a stranded project, and then I heard about the knitalong for Wendy Gaal's Winter Funderland Stocking and Hat. Without a Part Two,...

Through My Kaleidoscope: A Long Line of WIPs: Part One

http://throughmykaleidoscope-julie.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-long-line-of-wips-part-one.html

Monday, June 1, 2015. A Long Line of WIPs: Part One. There is a lot of knitting going on at my house, but not much finishing, I'm afraid. The problem is that I have recently cast on a bunch of projects, so almost everything is at the beginning stages, or not yet even halfway done. Because there are so many new WIPs, I am going to split them up into two posts, and I'll just share a few of them here. I am currently obsessed with my most recent cast-on, Spring and Summer Funderland. I cast on this next WIP ...

Through My Kaleidoscope: June 2015

http://throughmykaleidoscope-julie.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Friday, June 19, 2015. I did manage to get a few spring hikes in before the weather warmed up, however, so today I'm going to share some photos from those hikes, before I turn the page over to summer. To start, here is a trillium, Washington's State Flower, blooming alongside the trail at the west end of Rattlesnake Mountain, which we hiked in early May. On a cloudy Saturday in late May, we tried a new-to-us trail at Cougar Mountain. Here is the sign at the trailhead. I just realized, as I was about to p...

Through My Kaleidoscope: May 2015

http://throughmykaleidoscope-julie.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 6, 2015. Blooming, Blooming, Blooming. So I missed the April photo post (shame on me! But I'm here to make up for it. Late April and early May is prime time for two of my favorite blooming plants: rhododendrons and azaleas. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we are fortunate to have the perfect climate for these beauties, and they respond with bountiful and spectacular blooms. Take a look and enjoy! Golden Rhododendrons at the Bellevue Botanical Garden. A Splash of Purple. Susan B. Anderson.

Straightfork Farm Alpacas is an alpaca farm located in Graysville, Ohio owned by Sam & Cathy Moore.

Quality Alpacas and Fiber Products in SE Ohio's Wayne National Forest Area. I no longer plan to breed any of my alpacas, and I have some very nice animals who are ready to breed that I am letting go. These are nice girls. I need room in my barns for some sheep so I can continue to produce yarn, both alpaca and alpaca/wool blends. Take a look at my girls, you'll like them. I do. Since 1999 we have been raising huacaya alpacas on our 197 acre farm in southeast Ohio's Wayne National Forest area.

Straight for the Sun. Integral World, Integral Perspective. Saturday, May 28, 2011. The Importance of Metrics. The Importance of Metrics. The power of verse is in the shape of the words.
