Our year long stay in Auckland was extended and we returned to the UK for Christmas 2012. Within a week of his return to Auckland, Mike was offered the job of managing the Christchurch branch. This is not contract work but a permanent position and we had to make a pretty important decision very rapidly and after a lot of heart-searching we've decided to go for it. Stranger in a Strange Land. Monday, 10 March 2014. Two Mountains, one w/e: Trig M and Helicopter Hill. Trig M, 15 February. We booked a stop over at Smylies YHA in Springfield but drove past it on Saturday morning and went straight on up to the start of the Trig M walk. Stranger in a Strange Land. Monday, 16 December 2013. Little Mount Peel, 8 December. Turns out to be not very little at all. We drive down the day before planning to stop the night in Geraldine, but also to meet up with Brahm, Mike's old work buddy, for lunch who's living and working in Timaru. We've passed through Geraldine before but not stayed there and the Backpackers turns out to be pretty good, converted from an old maternity hospital.
