Eclectic Musings: November 2012
http://eclecticxtnmusings.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Time ripens all, no one is born wise. Monday, November 26, 2012. Homily for Christ the King, Nov. 25, 2012. My brothers and sisters, do we belong to the truth Jesus is speaking of? Or are we on some less spiritual quest? Our lessons today all revolve around the theme of our feast day today. Christ the King! How authentically do we listen to his voice? Anthony de Mello told the following story: When the devil saw a seeker of Truth enter the house of a Spiritual Master, he determined to do everything in hi...

Eclectic Musings: Homily for All Souls Day, 2013
http://eclecticxtnmusings.blogspot.com/2013/11/homily-for-all-souls-day-2013.html
Time ripens all, no one is born wise. Tuesday, November 5, 2013. Homily for All Souls Day, 2013. Let us entrust our loved ones to God looking forward to our reunion in Christ! In early 1984 my Father was told that his prostate cancer had returned. Five or so years prior he had been treated with radiation but this time it did not respond to treatment and grew rapidly. I was in New Orleans doing my Novice year for the order of priests and brothers I had joined. When we arrived he was already unconscious.

Eclectic Musings: April 2013

Time ripens all, no one is born wise. Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Homily for April 28, 2013. Homily for 5 Easter C. My sisters and brothers, in Christ we really are called to help build a new world! In our first reading, we get to watch the first Christians discovering that people normally viewed as unworthy are being given the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These outcasts, unrighteous gentiles, are accepted first by Peter and then officially accepted by the Christian community in Jerusalem. He has told of the d...

Eclectic Musings: August 2013
http://eclecticxtnmusings.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Time ripens all, no one is born wise. Monday, August 5, 2013. Homily for the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ: August 2013. Today we celebrate the Transfiguration of Jesus. Today is not simply about celebrating a moment of revelation in which Jesus’ divinity was made clear to his disciples. This event also includes the experience and example of Peter, James and John who become an archetype for us. They symbolically express how the presence of God in our lives can be both awe inspiring and transformative.

Eclectic Musings: December 2012
http://eclecticxtnmusings.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Time ripens all, no one is born wise. Tuesday, December 11, 2012. 2nd Sunday of Advent, Dec. 9, 2012. For us Christians, preparing the way of the Lord means getting busy about the Lord’s work! The book of Malachi, from which we get our first reading today, was written generations after the people returned to Israel from their captivity in Babylon (also called Persia). It was King Cyrus who permitted the people of Israel to return to Palestine but Israel is still a Persian province. He announces the time ...

Time ripens all, no one is born wise. Monday, November 11, 2013. Homily for November 10, 2013. Homily for Veterans Day and Pledge Sunday, 2013. A few days ago I learned from Greg about the military expression C4I. It is kind of memory aid for the core elements of military operations, i.e., Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence. In our Christian lives I think of three core elements: accepting God's blessings, growing in the faith and giving back in gratitude. We have a natural tende...

Eclectic Musings: Homily for September 8, 2013
http://eclecticxtnmusings.blogspot.com/2013/09/homily-for-september-8-2013.html
Time ripens all, no one is born wise. Tuesday, September 10, 2013. Homily for September 8, 2013. My brothers and sisters, the most difficult piece of our being Disciples of Christ is often the simplest; allowing Jesus to change us! In our reading from Jeremiah we hear that God forgives those who repent! This comes through the imagery of God’s people being like vessels shaped on a potter’s wheel. A potter’s wheel is a round flat stone (like a table) that spins as the potter works. A common penalty for a s...

Eclectic Musings: March 2013
http://eclecticxtnmusings.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Time ripens all, no one is born wise. Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Homily for Palm Sunday - March 24, 2013. Today's readings are about dedication. About that stubborn commitment, loyalty or just love of God that never dies. In the 1st reading the servant of God willingly puts up with all kinds of abuse rather that distance himself from God - who will win in the end! There are four of this poems or "Servant Songs" in Isaiah. The 2nd reading is the famous Philippians' Hymn. We have come to hear this story so m...

Time ripens all, no one is born wise. Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Homily for February 10, 2013. Homily for the Last Sunday after Epiphany Cycle: C. A burglar broke into a house one night. He shined his flashlight around, looking for valuables when a voice in the dark said, “Jesus knows you're here.”. He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze. When he heard nothing more, after a bit, he shook his head and continued. 8220;Did you say that? 8221; he hissed at the parrot. The fi...

Eclectic Musings: June 2013
http://eclecticxtnmusings.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Time ripens all, no one is born wise. Monday, June 3, 2013. Homily for June 2, 2013. We are called to share the love of God with the stranger, welcoming all whom God calls into his family. Our first reading today, takes place after King Solomon has completed building the Temple in Jerusalem. What we see today is part of the prayers of the Temple dedication ceremony. In today’s gospel, Jesus heals the centurion's servant. The faith and trust of the centurion is beyond compare. This all reminds me of a bla...
