Electro-Spark Alloying: Technology Overview and Applications. The ESA process produces an electric arc through a moving electrode energized by a series of capacitors as it is short-circuited momentarily with the base material. Surfaces are integral to the base alloy, do not delaminate. Current alloying rates 20 ft. sq./ hr. per laser. Controlled surface modification via pulsed micro-welding.
