Coast to Coast (Sustrans route)

Coast to Coast (Sustrans route). Weekend of 13 Sept 2002. I no longer had job. The weather forecast looked good everywhere. The days were still long. The rest of the family were otherwise occupied that weekend. I had been fantasizing over the Sustrans map and C2C guide for some time and never really expected to get my act together to go, but on an impulse the weekend of 13 Sept seemed too good to miss. 8:45 and the legs creaked. Had I over done it? The sun was shining, the sea looked friendly. I was ...

23 March - Chiltern Choir. Super concert - Beethoven Mass in B, and Haydn Te Deum. For once I was caught (thanks to P the Photographer) looking at the conductor rather than having my head buried in my copy:. All good things come to end. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). 22 - 28 Oct: More "normal" week. Took Suzuki for service to Hemel, cycled back in grey damp, 7miles, not very pleasant. Attempted to change options on my BT phone and broadband. Website in consistent and customer service on phone appeared helpful but actually could do nothing, then promised to ring me back tomorrow. Slightly suburban, but cute and comforting for the winter. BT never called back, should I be surprised? Choir in evening, went well and my sight reading wasn't bad for a non-musician. G&P rou...

18 - 24 Feb. Felt better in morning after the food dump last night, must have been the fish. Hair cut, Body Pump, then walked to vill to fix a curtain rail at Thorpedale, post letter, bank cheques, bit of shopping. Spin then MetaFit. Walked to vill for shopping (sea bass grilled with veggies tonight) and saw Nigel outside Thorpedale so stopped for a chat - he was very relaxed and using his glasses! Up to London for job interview. Watford Palace in evening for Equally Divided. 15 - 17 Feb: Norfolk. Choir ...

mafimuskala: Dunwich Dynamo 2015

http://mafimuskala.blogspot.com/2015/07/dunwich-dynamo-2015.html

We decided to head off straight away which meant a mind numbing slow bike ride with '00s navigating buses and car queues. It opened up on the straight road through Epping Forest and went smoothly after that. Darkness fell around 10pm (there was almost a full moon). Weather good but because sweated felt cold at the stops. Crashed on beach, queued for tickets for coach, to put bikes on transport, for a bacon roll and beer, to get onto coach. Well, actually Lulu did most of the queuing for me. The Empty Qua...

The lamps are going out all over Europe; we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime - 3 August 1914. Sir Edward Grey, the foreign secretary, had just returned from telling parliament that war was inevitable, and was talking in his office with his friend John Spender, the editor of the Westminster Gazette. The lamps are going out all over Europe; we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime," Grey said. By John McCrae, May 1915. In Flanders fields the poppies blow. Between the crosses, row on row,.

22 - 28 Sept: Pyrenees walking. Picked up MC at Carcassonne at 1pm and got the St Lary around 4pm after shopping at the local Carrefour. Kitting up = Here we go again! From Fecascon up towrd Col du Lustou. Straight unrelentingly up till about 150m before the col where it was getting tedious and cold and windy, then down. A good "warm up".maybe too good! 12km 1,227m ascent. 7km, 851 ascent (1,429 to 2217). Down past Refuge de Bastan where we had a snack and looked at the view. 12km, 812 ascent. Cycled via...

mafimuskala: In Flanders Fields

http://mafimuskala.blogspot.com/2014/08/in-flanders-fields-by-john-mccrae-may.html

By John McCrae, May 1915. In Flanders fields the poppies blow. Between the crosses, row on row,. That mark our place; and in the sky. The larks, still bravely singing, fly. Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago. We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,. Loved and were loved, and now we lie. Take up our quarrel with the foe:. To you from failing hands we throw. The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die. We shall not sleep, though poppies grow.

Stuart in Bahrain: January 2010

http://stuart-in-bahrain.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

29 Jan - 4 Feb: Looking forward to a long w/e with Stoker. Stoker arrived at 5:45am. Back to Villa and for her to catch up on sleep, but she needs to get up for 3pm for her pedicure and haircut. Very windy and dusty out our way. Trader Vics books for the evening, sat outside even though it was windy. Spin/'pump' with See. It felt tough at the time, but very quickly recovered so I couldn't have really pushed myself. Yes I know, too much weight to lift). 22 - 28 Jan: Back in the groove, sort of. Spin/abs w...

22 - 31 Dec: How much can one eat? Up to London with Marshalls to see Top Hat - great lively show. Pre theatre drinks in Waldorf, then dinner at Delaunays - round corner table, great atmosphere, food and service, and not over the top expensive. Jon joined us on Facetime! We drove up as G&N were with us, and I packed the Brompton in the boot. Parked car at Barnards House in the City for £2.50 after 1:30 on a Saturday, and cycled back and forth, worked out very well, managed to miss the rain! Lulu's friend...
