Haba na haba, hujaza kibaba: Chai Break
http://dariainkenya.blogspot.com/2011/04/chai-break.html
Haba na haba, hujaza kibaba. Little by little, fills the pot. Wednesday, April 13, 2011. At around 10:30am at AMPATH, workers drop everything to have an obligatory chai (tea) and snack break. Waiting room with 40 patients? Sorry, we are having chai! Need to quickly pick up something? Yup, you'll have to wait until after chai! 8 months ago the chai phenomenon made me crazy. And I mean, rip my hair out of my head, CRAZY. Where is the sense of responsibility? Blank stares and jaw drops followed). All of the...

Haba na haba, hujaza kibaba. Little by little, fills the pot. Saturday, May 28, 2011. 4 weeks left in Eldoret and I still don't think I've accepted the fact that this wonderful year will be coming to an end very soon. At least the people around me are paying attention so they planned one last longtermer trip last weekend. We biked about 5 miles to a gorge and then hiked for about 1.5 hours through the gorge. Trying to get up close and personal with the zebras. The rim of the crater. Monday, May 23, 2011.

Haba na haba, hujaza kibaba. Little by little, fills the pot. Friday, June 3, 2011. Have I mentioned how wonderful it's been to have a garden year round? This is one of the many things that I will miss about living in Kenya. I have successfully planted and harvested the following from seed:. Swiss chard (this has been growing nonstop since September.it's monster chard and I can't get enough of it). Tomatoes (3 plants yielded about 70 tomatoes in January). Kentucky blue pole beans. Here are some pictures.

http://dariainkenya.blogspot.com/2011_06_12_archive.html
Haba na haba, hujaza kibaba. Little by little, fills the pot. Sunday, June 12, 2011. One of my goals for the year was to start running more. I usually pick other activities over running since distance running for long periods of time was never my thing. I polevaulted in college so my running consisted of sprinting about 80 feet several times in a row. Anyway, I've definitely built a better running base while I've been in Kenya but I still feel like I have a lot more work to do. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Eva Ghana Wild: Public Health in Ghana
http://evaghanawild.blogspot.com/2010/07/public-health-in-ghana.html
Sunday, July 25, 2010. Public Health in Ghana. As Dr Howard Koh. In Ghana, public health appears to have a much greater and more coordinated role with medical institutions. The Ghana Health Services (GHS). As an aside, I am convinced that this course that was borrowed from the US was in fact borrowed from IHI. So, can public health and the GHS’s role in Ghana be redesigned to better meet the country’s need? August 18, 2010 at 9:19 AM. January 24, 2011 at 3:02 AM. July 20, 2011 at 6:24 AM. Thursday, August 12, 2010. Hustling: Providing Sustainable Aid. NGO signs outside Nabisco Estate in Tamale. One of the most common questions and comments I have received from my interactions with the district hospitals falls into a category I'd like to call, "What can you give me? What do these hospitals get in return for allowing me to freely wander around, stepping into the shoes of the management team and frontline staff? Health education workshop at Abono Primary School. Tuesday, August 10, 2010. Project Fives Alive: Two Days of Energizing Inspiration. In typical last-minute Eva fashion, two years ago, I decided to defer from medical school for a year to work at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). IHI has three developing countries programs. Ghana, South Africa, and Malawi. In Ghana, Project Fives Alive. A partnership with the National Catholic Health Service (NCHS) and Ghana Health Service (GHS) is working towards reducing under five mortality through qualit...
