misadventures with miso: Shimane Food Fair at Uwajimaya Market
http://blukats.blogspot.com/2015/05/shimane-food-fair-at-uwajimaya-market.html
Sunday, May 17, 2015. Shimane Food Fair at Uwajimaya Market. Something that I really miss is the great food fairs Mitsuwa Japanese Market would have. So I was really happy to find out that Uwajimaya in Beaverton and Seattle would be hosting a food fair with products from Shimane Prefecture! Not only that but they have a really cute yuru-chara called Shimanekko. There were a lot of different fish cakes or kamaboko and items for oden for sale. I decided to go with fresh Sawara Yuzu Kosho which is wild ...

Welcome to TADA's Revolution. The official website of TADA's Revolution. Cast members on break. The little pieces that make the revolution possible. On the set of Public Service. About TADA’s Revolution. I have decided to name my collection of work after Tada because it shares much in common with Tada’s experience. TADA’s Revolution is rebirth. It represents redemption from the garbage pile; it represents salvation from an ordinary, dreary, monotone reality. December 2, 2008 at 1:00 am. Don’t ever ...

misadventures with miso: Flash Back to Dining at Belmont Brewing Company in California
http://blukats.blogspot.com/2015/05/flash-back-to-dining-at-belmont-brewing.html
Friday, May 1, 2015. Flash Back to Dining at Belmont Brewing Company in California. I've been working on reducing and organizing almost everything in my apartment which is why a lapse in posts. Never an easy thing to do but I am keeping the though in my mind that having less will make life a little easier. So to make it up I will take you to the beach. Actually a pier at a beach. Belmont Shore Pier to be exact. In Southern California. It's been a few years since I've been there but it's good to see they ...

misadventures with miso: Dining at DaNet
http://blukats.blogspot.com/2015/05/dining-at-danet.html
Wednesday, May 20, 2015. One of the great things about the dining scene in Portland is how pop-ups have thrived. It's a great way for chefs to experiment and to cook food that they really love. One such pop-up is DaNet, Chef Vitaly Paley's homage to Russian cuisine. I decided to check it out last month. Waiters brought around trays of hors d'oeuvres like this deviled egg seasoned with anchovies. First up were plates of pickles including potatoes and mushrooms. On to the third course which was this beauty...

misadventures with miso: November 2013
http://blukats.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 29, 2013. The Alphabet District and the Multnomah Medical Examiner. It was hard to come up with something for this new Grimm episode "El Cucay". I do know parts were filmed in NW Portland, also known as the Alphabet District. This is a good indication there will be some kind of police action filmed. For a couple days back in August Grimm's crews took over the area near Thurman and 25th Ave. Wondering what is at the other end of this? Links to this post. Friday, November 15, 2013. Once pa...

misadventures with miso: March 2015

Tuesday, March 31, 2015. A Visit to Smith Teamaker. It seems only fitting that I do this post today. I was planning it soon since my recent visit to the Smith Teamaker Tasting Room was a couple weeks ago. I had purchased from the website before but wanted to visit the actual shop where Smith Teas were put together. You can also sit at the nice tables and enjoy a tea flight if you want. The flight came with four different types of tea. From left to right was No. 51 Sencha, No. 20 Bai Hao Oolon...All the t...

misadventures with miso: January 2015
http://blukats.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Following the Compass Along the Silk Road. First up was a cocktail to start the evening. Silk Road Sours were being mixed near our tables reminiscent of dining cars on the Orient Express. The drink featured egg white, Bombay Sapphire East Gin, lemon, and vanilla cardamom clove syrup. For me the flavor was mellow. At this point Chef Gourdet came out to introduce his partners for the evening. Chef Ken Norris partnered in the kitchen and Lyf Gildersleeve spoke later about Fl...

misadventures with miso: December 2013
http://blukats.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 13, 2013. It's a rather Grimm Christmas. You know something odd is happening when in the middle of October a place, O'Bryant Square, that normally looks like this. Looks like this. Who could be responsible for this? Rather festive when we had not even reached Halloween. All for Grimm. Sadly they were very late in starting filming the next night so I did not get a chance to see everything lit up. Stores were decorated with care. In hopes that Krampus would soon be there. misadventures with miso: October 2013
http://blukats.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 25, 2013. Portland's US Customs House. Once again it's Friday and the return of the television show Grimm. So I'm going to get back to showing a few places that turn up as part of the world of Grimm. Since it's the season three premier tonight I thought I would start off with a building that is probably one of the most filmed in Portland, Oregon. The US Customs House. The building has been undergoing restoration and now is leasing offices. Which is why the blue lift was there. The...Even ...

misadventures with miso: Things Get Sweet with Decadent Creations
http://blukats.blogspot.com/2015/04/things-get-sweet-with-decadent-creations.html
Thursday, April 16, 2015. Things Get Sweet with Decadent Creations. I am not a morning person. Less so as time has it's effect on me. But once in a while there is something worth getting up for. Local favorite bakery creations is one of them. Decadent Creations was going from weekend seller at Beaverton Farmers Market to having a micro-shop. Which is why there was this long line in Hillsboro, Oregon the other day. The woman in red way down there? You might be asking what's a micro-shop? After waiting in ...
