House of Hartman

The depressingly true stories of two middle-aged married people. Friday, June 12, 2015. May was busy, busy, busy between work, school, and travel. I spent lots of weekends working on my homework for my Urban Planning and Design class. It was like an old fashioned crafting project. Also did a little visiting with friends in May. Went down to Antioch to visit Face and her family. Her youngest, Lara, calls me "Nunah" instead of Nunan. Just another entry in my long list of nicknames! Saturday, May 2, 2015.

House of Hartman: November 2014

http://www.susan-hartman.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

The depressingly true stories of two middle-aged married people. Saturday, November 29, 2014. Day 5 AM - Dürnstein, Austria. We spent the morning of our 5th day in Dürnstein, Austria. There was no tour there, just some free time to wander around the town which was where Richard the Lionheart was held captive in 1192. While not open to visitors, we did get to walk around the outside of the beautiful, baroque style Dürnstein Abbey. Chris, next to the flood markers. He's as tall as the flood of 1881. The fe...

House of Hartman: Mediterranean & Greek culinary delights

http://www.susan-hartman.blogspot.com/2015/03/mediterranean-greek-culinary-delights.html

The depressingly true stories of two middle-aged married people. Sunday, March 1, 2015. Mediterranean and Greek culinary delights. The first course served was Bagna Cauda which is a garlic dip much like hummus. It was served alongside pita bread with caramelized onion. Next up, fried cheese! This was a thick haloumi Greek cheese known as a grilling cheese. This was served with a small piece of pita bread topped with Feta cheese. The fifth course was stuffed grapeleaves (dolmas) with falafels and tzatziki...

House of Hartman: Calling all ciders

http://www.susan-hartman.blogspot.com/2015/02/calling-all-ciders.html

The depressingly true stories of two middle-aged married people. Thursday, February 12, 2015. While I"m not a beer drinker (I don't like the taste and it makes me wildly sick), I do love me some cider! And with so many flavored ciders on the market it's never hard to find something to tasty to drink. So for our next taste testing it wasn't hard to decide on a style - hard apple cider. To make it all equal we made sure to stick with unflavored ciders - just plain apple. Woodchuck Hard Cider - Granny Smith...

semi-retired?: NO WALK TODAY!

http://kath-semiretired.blogspot.com/2015/08/no-walk-today.html

Thursday, August 6, 2015. Pleez mom, pleez mom! Let's go for a walk! This is a photo of a dog who wants to go OUT! But it's very smoky. Here due to a big fire about 75 miles north of us. The valley fills up with smoke most days, so it's not good for man, woman or beastie. The cat has to stay inside with her dad and keep him occupied at the computer instead of buggering the birds outside. It's tough on all of us! Labels: forest fires in Oregon. semi-retired?: EARLIEST EVER!

http://kath-semiretired.blogspot.com/2015/07/earliest-ever.html

Thursday, July 9, 2015. Our earliest ever tomato picking up here at 1900'! The red ones are Legend, a great slicer and the yellow.soon to be orange.is the heirloom Persimmon. We went ahead and took them off the vine as we're expecting more thunderstorms and rain today and maybe hail.you never know! Did I mention BLT's for lunch today? semi-retired?: September 2014

http://kath-semiretired.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 29, 2014. Proof positive that I'll have to empty out a few more pots to have any space for other plants.the succulents are SUCCING UP all the shelf space! I did manage to squeeze in one geranium at the back but I really need to downsize the succulent collection. I knew this but I kept hoping that they'd all fit. Well, not so much. By the end of October we'll be setting the heater (lower left corner) on about 52 degrees to keep everything happy. Saturday, September 27, 2014. I also wash ...

semi-retired?: OH WHAT A NIGHT!

http://kath-semiretired.blogspot.com/2015/07/oh-what-night.html

Wednesday, July 8, 2015. OH WHAT A NIGHT! A doozie of a thunderstorm ripped through the Rogue Valley last night with wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph and lots of lightning and thunder. Our big maple took a hit and lost 3 large lateral branches. Luckily none came down on the house thanks to having them thinned out this spring. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Live, Love, Learn: Journeys of a Green-Eyed Girl. Friday, July 30, 2010. 1 medium-sized summer squash. 1/2 cup chopped onion. 1 cup instant brown rice, cooked. 4 cups cheddar cheese. 2 cans (10 oz) green enchilada sauce. Cut the thawed chicken into cubes. Place in a skillet with olive oil, fresh black pepper and garlic powder, to taste. Begin cooking on medium heat. Meanwhile, cook the rice. When finsihed, add to the skillet. Also add one can of the enchilada sauce. To serve, place on a plate and spoon s...

http://livelovelearn-greeneyedgirl.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Live, Love, Learn: Journeys of a Green-Eyed Girl. Monday, March 28, 2011. It was such a beautiful day and my creative juices were flowing so I took an afternoon off to paint. I went and bought canvas from the craft store; it was my lucky day because all of my stuff was almost half off! I came home, set up my paints and plugged in my music and got down to work. It took me all afternoon, but they are finished, dry and now decorating my once bare dining room walls. I really like how they turned out! Lunch v...

semi-retired?: SUCCULENT SIGHTS

http://kath-semiretired.blogspot.com/2015/07/succulent-sights.html

Tuesday, July 14, 2015. One of my favourite succulents is Aeonium "Kiwi" potted up here in a vintage 1950's clay pot and sitting on an old antique folding chair. Lots of morning light in this location encourages the nice yellow and pink coloration. I appreciate its compact growth habit since it does have to spend the coldest months in the greenhouse. http://kath-semiretired.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 28, 2015. I'm removing sod in my backyard, as I do every year.no surprise there! This year, besides adding to the width of the gravel paths that border the lawn,(thus making the lawn ever smaller, heh heh.did I mention that I am not a fan of grass? I opted for creating a "POT PORT." It's a 3' x 6' widening of the path where I can group all sorts of pots this season. Labels: gardening in the Rogue Valley. Wednesday, February 25, 2015.
