Something Remarkable: A List From the Brighter Side
http://something-remarkable.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-list-from-brighter-side.html
Tuesday, August 4, 2015. A List From the Brighter Side. My mama is doing very well. Chemo is not in her future, just radiation. And her surgeon, much like my OB, is very happy with his handiwork. My baby nephew is doing well. His parents have very different ideas than I do about what you do when you have a 3-week-old-fresh-from-the-NICU but more power to them for not being afraid of the world, or at least not showing it. I submitted my book proposal (lit crit thing that I wanted finished. I'm a single mo...

Something Remarkable: Minus One
http://something-remarkable.blogspot.com/2015/07/minus-one.html
Wednesday, July 22, 2015. LG has been at camp since Sunday (she comes home Saturday morning), and while I miss her (of course I miss her), it's been LOVELY. When she is around there is a lot of nagging- of the "put your plate in the dishwasher" variety- on my end and a lot of recalcitrance on hers. Tiny Boy and I don't have that relationship. I'm spending "quality time" with Tiny Boy. We picked blueberries together. We've watched a chunk of Toy Story. I don't actually cook when LG's not around, because T...

Something Remarkable: May 2015
http://something-remarkable.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, May 28, 2015. Update at the End of May. Well, where was I? I've been writing steadily since the semester ended. Working on a new project and finishing (really finishing) the book I wanted to have finished before Tiny Boy was born (ha! I've also been asked to do a bunch of shorter things (essays, reviews). I completed one, said no to one, said I'd do another on an alternate time frame. I have an upcoming workshop thing I need to prepare for. I've been reading. Ian McEwan's The Children Act.

Something Remarkable: February 2015
http://something-remarkable.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 27, 2015. A Day in the Life. I'm interested in these day in the life posts, seen recently at Laura Vanderkam. 10:30pm lunesta; read for "pleasure"; good night (LG might still have been awake at this point, dealing with her own prepubescent insomnia). Awake from about 1-4, including two calls from Tiny Boy and a hallucinatory moment of thinking there's pop music playing- it was actually two different white noise things coming from each child's bedroom; another wake-up around 6:00]. 9:00-1...

Something Remarkable: August 2014
http://something-remarkable.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 29, 2014. I was walking to class yesterday, a building I teach in frequently, although not every semester. And I had this visceral feeling of doing that walk as a fertility patient, waiting for phone calls, or rushing there after a morning monitoring appointment. Took my breath away. That life is both so close and so far away. I have a babysitter for 2.5 hrs so I should use the most of it. Monday, August 25, 2014. RBOC of Sorry for My Absence. Now I'm going to go to the grocery store, as I...

Something Remarkable: June 2014
http://something-remarkable.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 28, 2014. Tiny Boy went to sleep at 10:00 last night (okay, that's not good) but there was only one potty trip and no requests for drinks (already supplied.multiple beverages in the crib! Because Tiny Boy went to sleep about 30 minutes before I wanted to sleep, I watched the first bit of Thelma and Louise. Which I haven't seen since it came out in 1991 and hadn't remembered- how did I NOT REMEMBER? That it was a rape that started the whole plot. So it's good, minus the migraine. Waah.

Something Remarkable: November 2014
http://something-remarkable.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 30, 2014. Tiny Boy's Greatest Hits. Thanks to preschool, Tiny Boy sings. A lot. This weekend involved him singing "Happy Birthday," "Mary Had a Yittle Yam," "No Mo Monkeys Jumping on the Bed," "Yet It Go! And my personal favorite, "Us All Lib in a Lello Sumbarine.". Let's just say the car ride home was not boring. And I have officially completed NaBloPoMo. Good night, y'all. Saturday, November 29, 2014. Happy Birthday to Me. I slept somewhere around 9.5 hours. Friday, November 28, 2014.

Living (in) a Fantasy Novel | Book View Cafe Blog

Book View Cafe Blog. Story Excerpt Sunday: From Dun Lady’s Jess. BVC Announces Futures Near and Far by Dave Smeds →. Living (in) a Fantasy Novel. November 24, 2014. This past week I set up a crowdfunding campaign for a new project. 8220;Your life is like a fantasy novel.”. And watch out for the cactus! Really. I mean that. Fantasy as a genre, despite all the “comfy-cozy” stereotyping, isn’t about the warm fuzzies. Those fuzzies may have teeth. For the humans and their domestic animals who end up here, ei...

It's MY LIFE: October 2014
http://authenticchoices.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Adventures in building a family and living authentically. Settling In, Family, and the Ducks. Sorry for the long absence; it's been quite a transition period! It was a LOT to try and move and then travel to Oregon the following weekend. Yowza! Which we did, but it was quite abrupt. I'm guessing he still feels a lot of grief about his long-time partner passing away - I think it was a year and a half ago or so. I'll post more about J and settling in later, as well. Links to this post. So, bottom line, he h...

It's MY LIFE: May 2015
http://authenticchoices.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Adventures in building a family and living authentically. Ongoing Trials and Transitions. Just riding along on this freaky transition train, holding on as best I can! Meanwhile I continue to look and follow up on other places, like the Albany house. No word on that yet, either. I connected with a lovely single mom who has a 17-month-old little boy. But her budget is pretty modest and there are a lot of unknowns with that scenario: how will we get along in terms of lifestyle? I think he has doubts and may...
