From parked cars to waterways, groundlevel views to aerials, I am interested in the simple elements of shape and line. The more years I paint, the more I try to reduce detail and head toward underlying form. A number of paintings are available through Simon Mace Gallery. Artist Websites Crafted by FASO.
Suzanne DeCuir - Portfolio of Works
http://suzannedecuirfineart.com/works
When remembering places, images seem to come back more often in fragments, with certain shapes and colors dissolving and others gaining weight and presence in the mind's eye. I think that sometimes fragments do a better job of bringing back a sense of the whole than a more completely resolved image would. I like the way the overhead perspective makes everything instantly abstract - just line and shape and color and some small glimpses of the non-abstract world. I’m still not sure.

Unpacking My Library: December 2009
http://unpacking-my-library.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 30, 2009. I once received a prestigious award to study for a doctoral degree. The foundation that funded the grant, which was offered to students in all fields (I concentrated in American Studies), used three major criteria to determine who merited an award: academic achievement, passion for the value of education, and commitment to teaching as a career. Although I did not understand this until recently, an invitation four years ago to lead a reading class at Richard Hugo House. It wo...

Art Ideas and Discussion for Painters. Monday, June 14, 2010. You can see that one is for sale for 950K. I'd be surprised if there was any mention of the history of that plot of land. And would it matter to you? Would you feel as though you were buying a house of spirits? Does what you don't know really not hurt you? Do I sound like Carrie Bradshaw trying to be Isabel Allende? Do you have places you recall as especially interesting or powerful? PS If you'd like to read more, there's a short LA Times.

Art Ideas and Discussion for Painters. Thursday, June 24, 2010. Tomato, tomahto. . . how about Brancusi? If you're like me you have been pronouncing it incorrectly for years - just learned it's pronounced Brancoosh. And it's Romanian, not Italian. He left Romania early in his life to study and work in France, but evidently he never really stopped creating art that had its touchstones back in Romania. In Writers on Art. Above is The Kiss. Bailey feels that given the sculptor's Orthodox background, he prob...

Art Ideas and Discussion for Painters. Friday, January 29, 2010. Does this language strike you as a tad anachronistic? At the beginning of the reign of Philip III,. El Greco's client base was expanding. " (p. 185)*. Just think what he could have accomplished with Twitter. Marketing efforts aside, late in his career and in the last decade of his life, El Greco had moved into a larger studio in Toledo and at last had the time and the means to work on his own paintings as well as. Dates from between 1608-14.

Suzanne DeCree | The Precipice of Imagination | The Precipice of Imagination
The Precipice of Imagination. Ye Olde Opera House. When in the Course. It's amazing how hard and how often we try to hide who we really are. And where does that get us? Spinning our wheels time after time trying to reinvent ourselves. I had done it for years. I have a long list of pseudonyms to prove it. A few months back, I had a reawakening of sorts. If I'm just me, there's nothing to reinvent. So here it is - all of my creative endeavors, insights and rants for you to enjoy.
