Shepherd

How does it work? Shepherd delivers reliable, high-quality Australian TV guide data (EPG). The Shepherd project began in 2007 when Australians with Home Theatre PCs lacked a good method of obtaining an EPG. The free-to-air stations fought against the free availability of such data, apparently fearing that Home Theatre PCs / PVRs would allow people to skip ads. Instead, they filed lawsuits, sent cease and desist letters, and obfuscated their online guides. Australians had two options:. Download an EPG from.

FAQ – Shepherd

http://svn.whuffy.com/wiki/FAQ

How does it work? How can I get help or ask a few questions? Which operating systems does Shepherd support? Does Shepherd only work with MythTV? How do I install Shepherd? How important is it to install the optional Perl modules? How well is Shepherd working? Is there a log file somewhere? Why is Shepherd so slow? Can I make Shepherd faster? Can I set some default options? Can I grab more than 7 days of data? Can I get guide data from multiple different regions? Show names keep changing! Auto, None, 1000?

Security – Shepherd

http://svn.whuffy.com/wiki/Security

Shepherd auto-updates: it downloads newer versions of itself and its components by default and runs them. Grabbers tend to be very fragile: they break whenever the source web site changes. Auto-updating prevents this from leaving users with incorrect or no guide data, as your system receives fixes and improvements as the developers release them. The ideal solution is to allow Shepherd to run normally, but restrict it from doing anything abnormal. See Securing Shepherd with AppArmor. Run as its own user.

Steve's Ubuntu Tweaks: HTPC update - separating backend from frontend

http://stevesubuntutweaks.blogspot.com/2015/03/htpc-update-separating-backend-from.html

Making the user experience of Ubuntu Linux and MythTV just that little bit better. Monday, March 16, 2015. HTPC update - separating backend from frontend. After using the Atom-based HTPC for a while, I noticed it start to struggle in high load situations - like playing back HD TV while recording multiple streams, commercial flagging, trying picture-in -picture, running disk checks. I decided to upgrade the box to something a bit more powerful, so there’s a bit more headroom. Since I had recently had some...

Guide to building a MythTV HTPC. Guide to building a MythTV HTPC. NOTE – This is still a work-in-progress, but I figured posting something for now would at least be helpful to others. This guide isn’t about how to set up mythTV – thats covered plenty well enough from a software perspective on other sites and forums. Instead, I wanted to comment on a few of the less-considered parts, like how to choose the right video card, which remotes are good, and which tuners. Building a dedicated MythTV box. Once yo...
