Its 115 am and we are coming down the shipping lane in Moreton Bay. We crossed the Wide Bay Bar this morning to cover the remaining 113 NM to Manly. It has been a good day with some nice fast sailing at up to 8 knots. Late afternoon, just before Mooloolaba, the breeze dropped and the current changed direction so it has been a bit slow since about 6.00 pm. What a relief that was. Wind eased back a bit by 3:00 am and came slightly more to the east allowing us to use the cutter sail once again which improved our speed. Too tight for the headsail though. The sun is now up and we still have about 177 NM to run to the Hole in the Wall. It seems the easterly winds predicted a few days ago have changed to ESE and a little stronger. Sea Hazards and Some Duty Free Shopping. In the flat seas across to Labuan this large log and two clumps of Nipah palms were easily spotted but maybe not so if travelling at night. We have seen much larger clumps of Nipah than this before! Just short of Labuan we were greeted by a 20-knot ESE wind which seemed a bit strange. Back at the boat we decided we did not want to spend another couple of nights rocking around in this harbour so we hauled up the anchor and left for. Actually, the Klias River, 11NM away in Sabah. The winds were light and the tide was right to get across the shallow banks about 3 miles out from the entrance.
