The Wandering Naturalist: April 2014

http://swallowtailedkite.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, April 19, 2014. Yellow-rumped Warblers are beginning to trickle in to the southern part of WI where winter has finally ceased its hold and daytime temps are beginning to warm up. Still no sign of any green though. It's pretty brown out there. Via Facebook http:/ ift.tt/RyWEod. Links to this post. Tuesday, April 1, 2014. The Biggest Week in American Birding! Wednesday, February 5, 2014. Book Review: Lost Animals: Extinction and the Photographic Record by Errol Fuller. I just received this excellent book in the mail a few days ago and have taken some time to page through it. The photos, together with the well-written species accounts, including excerpts from writings of the day and reminiscings from firsthand experiences, the book is an excellent piece to have in your library or on your coffee table at home. The Wandering Naturalist: November 2012

http://swallowtailedkite.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Friday, November 30, 2012. A cold, bleak dawn found us well on our way, headed north and east past Green Bay towards Door County where a Northern Hawk-owl had been found. On the way, we chattered about birding, records, chasing, doing a big year, etc., the usual kind of chatter you hear from crazy birders like us. After a short stop in Green Bay to grab some food (apparently Rob can't run on just birding alone. who does that? Jk :D ) we were well on our way to where the Hawk-owl was hanging out. The Hawk...

The Wandering Naturalist: August 2012

http://swallowtailedkite.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, August 4, 2012. If you haven't been to Glacier yet, I would highly recommend visiting. The scenery is spectacular and the birding is pretty sweet. If you visit in July like I did, you should hit the wildflowers pretty nicely. At the top of Logan Pass, the Glacier Lillies were blooming:. In the lower elevations, you can find Thimbleberry blooming in July and fruiting in August:. In the high mountain valleys, Mountain Bluebells can be found in large numbers:. Til next time, Happy Birding! I have ...

Bird of the Month. Logan Pass (pictured above). 6,689 feet above sea level. Great spot for birds and more abundantly, people. Mostly residents from all over, including Europe and Asia, just here for a few days. In the first 500 feet of the trail, Columbian Ground-Squirrels dominated. Like the Columbian Ground-Squirrels...

Josh Covill's Birding Blog. The news and sightings from Flathead County, Montana, and beyond. Thursday, July 29, 2010. Monday the 26th I woke up bright and early. Time to do some birdin'. I took a drive down Riverside Rd in Creston to visit the "Bobolink" spot off of O'Bryan Rd. Unfortunately, its just late enough in the season that the males aren't singing very much, but I did find 2 bird! I love seeing BOBOs. Right near there, along the stream, there was about 40 Bank and Cliff Swallows! About 30 or so!

Birder's Eye View: May 2008

http://earthbird.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 29, 2008. Just thought I'd post some of my latest sketches, seeing as I haven't gone birding in a while. Below is a basic silhouette I drew yesterday. I was sort of experimenting with the lighting, shadows and shading a bit. The next picture was drawn a while ago. I sort of got the idea from the Beatles' song, "Blackbird." I don't know why, but the picture came out almost cartoonish. Hopefully I'll get to go birding again soon, and *fingers crossed* get some new species on my list! All the ...

Josh Covill's Birding Blog. The news and sightings from Flathead County, Montana, and beyond. Wednesday, November 25, 2009. Flathead Lake, MT. Today, Thanksgiving Eve, I wandered around the valley birding. Remember the Mew Gulls I found the other weekend at the landfill? They are still there, and then some. Dan Casey counted 4 Mew Gulls at a time. Today, right away with out even a hard search, I found 2 Mews. I got close enough that I can phonedigiscope. Worthy shots of one of the Mew Gulls. I went to Foy.
