Views of the Shop. This is a view of the Sherline mill. Behind is an inexpensive drill press. This is the first piece of machinery I bought. It's approximately 700lbs of Taiwanese cast iron. I didn't realize just how big and heavy it was until I went to pick it up from the shipping terminal. I had to dismantle it in the driveway, and take it down stairs to the shop piece-by-piece. This little V-block was inspired by need. I wanted to cross drill a hole in a boring bar, and I couldn't figure out how to accurately center the hole. I happened across a similar design. I made this little T-slot mill by following instructions found in The Shop Wisdom of Frank McClean. The bearing housing sits at the front of the engine and contains the first bearing that supports the crank shaft and the propeller. The front of the housing has a 3/4 inch radius. I felt that is a bit big for a form tool so decided to cut this “old school”. The initial radius was formed with a rough step cut using a X/Z feed chart that I first created in Excel.
