http://ontheroadtochessmaster.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
On the Road to Chess Master. Wednesday, July 31, 2013. Things can only get better." - Howard Jones. July began with a three step plan. Step one was to work on opening prep (sound familiar? Step two was to work on analytical ability, and step three was to work on calculation ability. Sohow did I do? Well, for once I feel that I completely nailed it! Let's take the steps one by one:. I long for the day in which I spend 10-15 hours analyzing each of my games after playing them. I'm nowhere near that yet...

On the Road to Chess Master: Time to Find the Next Gear
http://ontheroadtochessmaster.blogspot.com/2013/11/time-to-find-next-gear.html
On the Road to Chess Master. Wednesday, November 13, 2013. Time to Find the Next Gear. A little over two years ago I went over 1700 for the first time. However, I clearly wasn't ready for it as I almost immediately fell back below. I then crashed all the way down to 1560 in August of last year due to a crisis of confidence. However, I have gained 220 points since that time and feel poised to continue to gain. Just knowing those things told those guys what to play for in the late middle game and as they t...

On the Road to Chess Master. Thursday, November 14, 2013. The Practicality of Endgame Studies. You may have noticed that from time to time I mention that solving studies was something I was encouraged to do when I first started taking chess lessons. In fact, if you read my "other" blog at http:/ www.chessiq.com/blog/. Then you will see me talk about them even more often. This is a study that I just finished solving. It's White to play and win. So how can White give check. The obvious way is along the...

On the Road to Chess Master: August 2013

On the Road to Chess Master. Friday, August 30, 2013. Another Rating Peak Achieved! After this year's Southwest Chess Club's championship I managed to achieve another all time peak rating of 1771. Things still seem to be going rather well for me. I feel that my approach at the board has changed a great deal over the past few weeks since I started to seriously analyze my games. I now make a point to analyze every game after I play it. Look for some more games to be posted here soon! Sunday, August 25, 2013.

On the Road to Chess Master: Recap for October
http://ontheroadtochessmaster.blogspot.com/2013/11/recap-for-october.html
On the Road to Chess Master. Tuesday, November 5, 2013. October's plan was relatively simple. I wanted to continue to learn the Taimanov Sicilian, and I wanted to analyze my own games. I didn't work on the Sicilian at all. I did some minor opening tuneups but nothing major. Although I do want to become much stronger in the opening, I am starting to realize that improving the other areas of my game is more important and that by focusing on them openings will improve naturally. Path to Chess Mastery.
