Hidden Swindon: Rushy Platt and the River Ray

http://swindonia.blogspot.com/2009/11/rushy-platt-and-river-ray.html

Saturday, 7 November 2009. Rushy Platt and the River Ray. Nature Reserve is looked after by the Wiltshire. Wildlife Trust. It is part of a large area of marshland known as fen that once covered most of south Swindon. Home to wading birds such as snipe, amphibians such the great crested newt, and the increasingly rare water vole, in summer it becomes a sea of valerian. Http:/ www.wiltshirewildlife.org/. Hidden Swindon: Purton Timberland Trail

http://swindonia.blogspot.com/2008/04/purton-timberland-trail.html

Friday, 11 April 2008. The inscription on the plaque attached to this stone includes this rather meandering sentence. This stone which was reputed to stand on the spot where a horse was struck by lightning and to be its gravestone, was removed from a field at Haydon End Farm approximately a quarter of a mile to east of this point soon after the second world war and laid against the field boundary for over 40 years.". Flows through the west of Swindon. And finishes at Moulden. Friday, April 11, 2008.

Hidden Swindon: Liden Lagoon

http://swindonia.blogspot.com/2009/09/liden-lagoon.html

Tuesday, 15 September 2009. A blustery, overcast afternoon with leaves spinning down, today I discovered yet another willowy place in Swindon. That remains relatively unknown. In the same group of lakes as Coate. Water (the other being just off Shaftesbury. Avenue) and tucked away on a leafy housing estate, Liden. Lagoon came as a total surprise. Sarsen. Heron so still at the waters edge". Mysteries lurk in murky depths". Taken from Wiltshire Web). Tuesday, September 15, 2009. Reflections on Stained Glass.

Reflections on Stained Glass: Fisherman's Museum

http://swindonia-stained-glass.blogspot.com/2009/06/fishermans-museum.html

Reflections on Stained Glass. The refraction of light and colour in glass is perhaps art in its most luminous form. I found this little window over the door of the Fisherman Museum in Scalloway while visiting the Shetlands recently. Appropriate and lovely in its simplicity. The west flushed, drove down its shutter. And night sealed all. Peaceful the air, the sea. A quiet scattering of stars. Makes the gentlest of motions about the turning world,. A thin wash through the pebbles. No moon this night.
