Tuesday, April 22, 2008. Here are some pictures of random things that have occurred in the past 2 months. Cate, the cat that lives outside my bedroom window (and apparently has a thing for scooters). With my friend Eiko and her husband. Back at one of my old schools with Kominami Sensei and Imatomi Sensei. Looking out the window of my friend's bedroom, this is what Japan looks like in my mind. With Aoi and Misako, My Omuta Family. With my old coworkers and dear, dear friends. Noma Sensei's hamster, Cherry.

Wednesday, October 1, 2008. After Dave left, I spent a week in Sunagawa recovering from our travels. My memory's a bit hazy, but it seemed to involve lots of napping and ice cream. On the following weekend, Pepe and Brit came into town having just finished their own travels around Honshu. And rice balls. Next up was watching skinny, rail-thin boys launch themselves against their chubbier opponents. It was thoroughly entertaining. The next day we all went to my favorite place, Furano! We spent the next da...

Considering that we are buried under mass amounts of snow for half the year, a 1 month summer is a bit of a disappointment. Sunday, July 19, 2009. Saturday, September 12, 2009. Here's my attempt at making savory Korean pancakes known as pajeon in Korea and chijimi in Japan. I used this recipe. From Just Bento, but mine still needs some work. It was a bit too eggy, or something. But still quite yummy. So far I haven't gone wrong with anything that includes kimchi. Interestingly enough, among the many issues between Korea and Japan, they've even managed to fight about kimchi. While searching for more kimchi recipies, I came across this article.

Saturday, August 8, 2009. Unless you like hostel accomodation at resort prices. It wasn't all bad - the food was great and the staff was nice, but I don't really enjoy paying $150 a night for a five-mat tatami room, no private toilet, and no running water on the second morning of our stay. There are only a handful of lakes in Japan that are deemed suitable for swimming. I play a frequency adverb board game with my students and on the question, "How often do you swim in a lake? Not the two chubby c.

Saturday, December 6, 2008. So I guess I really am terrible at maintaining a blog. I'm going to attempt a massive write-up before I head home for Christmas, so be prepared to go back in time. Waaayyy back in October, I went to a tenipon tournament in the south-central part of Hokkaido. Minako was kind enough to drive us all over the Tokachi region before heading to Cape Erimo to experience the windiest place in Hokkaido. It was almost like being back in Cut Bank. Wednesday, February 25, 2009. Probably Not a Contender for the Zagat's Guide. Last week, we decided to try a coffee shop named Impala. Coffee shops in small-town Japan usually sell overpriced, overly strong coffee and offer a small food menu that usually consists of pasta and some rice dishes. We weren't expecting much but we should've expected less. Would lead to, at least, an adequate dining experience. If he wasn't telling us to leave, would it be rude to leave? Kaori asked, even more confused. Hmmmm ...

We boarded the 11:10 ferry and made ourselves comfortable near the front of the boat. The ferry was rather empty, so we were able to stretch out on the floor and take a bit of a nap. As we neared the island, the weather was still holding up, so were were greeted by some fantastic views of Mt. Rishiri. After departing the ferry, a driver from our ryokan.
