THE HISTORY OF THE TAIRONA. The history of the Tairona differs from that of most other native Americans in two crucial ways. Firstly - For some 60 years after the Spanish first arrived, and effectively enslaved the population at the base of the Sierra Nevada, the rest of the community survived relatively untouched and able to observe the newcomers. THE HEART OF THE WORLD. In 1990 the Kogi and Alan Ereira made a 90-minute film for BBC1 in which they dramatically warned of our need to change course. Then they withdrew again. The film helped shape the Rio Conference, it led to the King of Spain visiting the Kogi and to a complete transformation of the Colombian attitude to these people.
