Mockingjay Party | Tales from the Nerdy
https://talesfromthenerdy.wordpress.com/2014/10/27/mockingjay-party/comment-page-1
Tales from the Nerdy. This WordPress.com site is the bee's knees. October 27, 2014. To celebrate the upcoming “Mockingjay Part 1” movie, I held a Hunger Games inspired program for my teens. First up was the obstacle course:. 1 Make a line of hula hoops walk backwards from one hoop to the other. 2 I had a hat made out of a paper bag from a Dr. Seuss program. The teens needed to toss a crumpled piece of scrap paper into the hat. They had three tries. 4 Walk across our soft balance beam. Last up, I wanted t...
July | 2015 | Tales from the Nerdy

Tales from the Nerdy. This WordPress.com site is the bee's knees. July 27, 2015. Our local youth council comes every summer for a visit. I didn’t want to do a traditional summer storytime, so I decided to do funny books. I put a call out on the Storytime Underground Facebook book to find a second title. They gave me so many titles, it was hard to choose just one! I ended up with a really good one:. Oh where, oh where has my little head. Oh where, oh were can it be? Oh where, oh where has my little head.

Tales from the Nerdy. This WordPress.com site is the bee's knees. June 17, 2015. In celebration of Father’s Day, I created a movement program for 2-4 year olds and their Dads. We began the program by doing some basic stretches. I found most of my action songs on the site Songs for Teaching. Here are some we did:. A snake will slide, and slide, and slide, and spin. Slide, and slide and slide, and spin to one side and back again. Snakes slide out and slither in. Rattle, and rattle, and rattle, and roll.

Tales from the Nerdy. This WordPress.com site is the bee's knees. December 18, 2014. I was totally inspired by reading this post: http:/ fatgirlreading.com/music-movement-baby-dance/. When I created this program. After listening to more children’s music CDs than I care to admit, here’s the list I used for my party:. Shake My Sillies Raffi. Chicken Mack Dance Greg and Steve. Keep Moving Loopty Loo. Wheels on the Bus – Raffi. Movin’ Every Day Action Songs for Preschoolers. If You’re Happy and You Know It.
Superhero Party | Tales from the Nerdy
https://talesfromthenerdy.wordpress.com/2015/08/06/superhero-party
Tales from the Nerdy. This WordPress.com site is the bee's knees. August 6, 2015. I ran an All Ages Superhero Party for the SRP theme. The kids began by decorating masks and capes. I found the mask template online and simply traced it onto cardstock. The kids decorated their masks with crayons or makers and colored gems. The capes were plastic tablecloths. The only downside of these was that there were hard to paint since we only use tempera paint. Lastly, we played pin the star on Captain America’...

Pamelibrarian: November 2016
http://pamelibrarian.blogspot.com/2016_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 29, 2016. DNF: Things I Should Have Known. Can I just write: "NOOOOO, not another 'autistic person as a burden' book? And leave it at that? Why do authors think that this narrative is still okay? Why do publishers promote it as "heartwarming" and "invigorating" and, my personal favorite (in Bizarro World, obviously, where "favorite" means "loathed"), "inspirational.". This is why that line in Jerry Maguire. Bothers me so much: it's manipulative and just plain untrue. I've not read too m...

Tuesday, January 31, 2017. 2017 Diverse Reading Challenge: January Update. I think I did rather well for my first month of Read.Sleep.Repeat's 2017 Diverse Reading Challenge. I've already reviewed some of these books, while others have reviews in the works, and still others I simply savored. Anyway, here we go! The Education of Margot Sanchez. By Lilliam Rivera: Latinx, #ownvoices. By Anne Ursu: neurodiverse main character. By Andrea Maturana: Latinx, #ownvoices. By Juana Medina: Latinx, #ownvoices.

Thursday, March 31, 2016. So You Want to Be A Jedi? I stayed up late to finish this book (granted, its not very long and I started late to begin with) and its tearing me in two. Light side and Dark side, perhaps? Wednesday, March 30, 2016. What I'm Reading Wednesday. Three new books this week (although I did rip through a good six this past week and therefore have all of these drafts sitting balefully on my dashboard, waiting to be written)! A Tyranny of Petticoats. Yes, please, and thank you! Warning: ...

Thursday, April 28, 2016. Theyre not under your bed. Theyre not in your closet. Theyre stalking you in the city. Theyre watching you as you sleep. Born from death and destruction, monsters are oh so very real. Tuesday, April 26, 2016. My heart had not been false and that knowledge was unshakable and scrawled on the secret joints of my soul, like a spell that kept it whole. 160;I can do it! 160;But I am confident in declaring Roshani Chokshis The Star-Touched Queen. Wednesday, December 28, 2016. My favorite reviews of 2016. However, when I'm giving a negative review, I do try very hard to demonstrate why I didn't like the book. That's not to say you shouldn't read it, or that you can't like it. Some of my favorite books are ones that my coworkers intensely dislike. On this list you'll see a mix of positive and negative reviews. I really enjoyed writing them, and I hope you enjoy reading them. And Jeremy K. Brown. Holding Up the Universe. Stalking Jack the Ripper.

Monday, October 31, 2016. On hiatus until further notice. Due to unexpected events, I am on hiatus until further notice. Wednesday, October 26, 2016. I wonder what the collective noun for unfinished books would be? A catastrophe of DNFs? A tragedy of DNFs? A failure of DNFs? Hmm Ill have to think on this one. In the meantime, here are my rambling thoughts on Jonathan Maberrys latest, Mars One. First of all, can we just all agree that the cover is awful. Saturday, October 22, 2016. Yeah, me too. Volume ...
Pamelibrarian: Books I'm Desperate to Read: 2017 Edition
http://pamelibrarian.blogspot.com/2017/01/books-im-desperate-to-read-2017-edition.html
Sunday, January 1, 2017. Books I'm Desperate to Read: 2017 Edition. Well, I mostly-sort-of-kinda-oh-my-goodness-noooooooooo made it through the dumpster fire of 2016. Happily, on the book front, it's a bright future. I feel like if the 2017 books that I've already read set a pattern for all the other ones, I might actually rekindle a bit of hope as a reader. But first! The 2017 books I am dancing with impatience to read. You know, like the pee dance, but for books. The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue.
Pamelibrarian: The Education of Margot Sanchez
http://pamelibrarian.blogspot.com/2017/01/the-education-of-margot-sanchez.html
Saturday, January 7, 2017. The Education of Margot Sanchez. So having a teen narrator who is confused and conflicted is authentic and true. But having a teen book. That is confused and conflicted creates a difficult reading experience. Unfortunately, The Education of Margot Sanchez. The book attempts to take on too many issues and loses potency as thought-provoking topics like drug use and gentrification turn into bullet points, not thinking points. But Margot just wants to belong. Wrong Margot is busted...

Monday, January 9, 2017. The Stone-Cold Heart of P.J. Penza. At the end of 2016, Amazon was running a sale on former bestsellers. I snagged two Kindle books that had been on my to-read list for a few years and figured why not? In that glorious haze of Buying Stuff That's On Sale (you know what I mean, don't you? That funny adrenaline rush? One of the books that I purchased was Gabrielle Zevin's The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry. Said Mr. Fikry ruins his first appointment with a new book rep because he i...

Only in Alaska do you hike up a hair raising trail to watch a local band play inside a glacier carved bowl. Photo credit: Jason and Nikki Wynn. Perform a little concert (it was amazing! It was surreal. I mean, how often can you say you hiked 2 miles, gaining 2000 vertical feet, to party on top of mountain with a bunch of other hikers?

tales from the mutliverse
Tales from the mutliverse. Monday, July 20, 2009. Baptism by the Moon. Forty years ago today my brother was baptized into my mother’s religious cult. I know this because that was the only thing I really ever found extraordinary about him. That he was baptized on the day Neil Armstrong placed the first human foot on the moon. We have spent the past 15 or so years embroiled in a non ending fight of which both origins and many skirmishes I will leave out of the public record - for now. But like the moon...

The Littlest Birds Sing the Prettiest Songs. Wednesday, December 21, 2011. To be, or not to be. I know that I don't need to choose only one identity, but I feel like a hypocrite being a vegetarian/human rights activist, and then shopping at stores that undoubtedly use exported labor.
