Ari O'Speedwagon: Andrew Bird and Stunt Food
http://ari-o-speedwagon.blogspot.com/2011/01/andrew-bird-and-stunt-food.html
Saturday, January 1, 2011. Andrew Bird and Stunt Food. Man, I heart Andrew Bird. This song is from his 2001 album, "The Swimming Hour". I saw Mr. Bird at the Folk Festival a couple of years ago and, hitherto his taking the stage, I and my friends were on the green space boozing and laughing and just generally being the village idiots that we frequently are. Then Bird took the main stage, and within seconds we were all of us transfixed. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Racing&...

Ari O'Speedwagon: Ironman Canada 2010
http://ari-o-speedwagon.blogspot.com/2010/09/ironman-canada-2010.html
Monday, September 6, 2010. Over the years I got caught up in different things—martial arts, mountain biking, girls, drinking (heh)—but I never completely forgot about this goal, and whenever, perchance, I happened upon some triathlon event while channel surfing, I was glued. As I say, this was never the intention when I started, but it certainly became one of the reasons I continued. And the Calgary half-Ironman, while fulfilling, just wasn’t enough. That “distance” wasn’t...The Ironman Canada Village:.

Ari O'Speedwagon: January 2009
http://ari-o-speedwagon.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 12, 2009. Early last year, a client gave me a small plaque with a quote on it. The quote, from Scottish mountain climber W.H. Murray, reads thusly:. I've pondered the significance of this quote many times since. This notion of commitment, this idea that it engages some universal system of levers and pulleys, I find endearing, and apropos my circumstances. Brushing my teeth: Why triathlon? You haven't been in a pool in years. This is not the place to delve into metaphysical questions on th...

Ari O'Speedwagon: October 2011

Tuesday, October 11, 2011. My 2011 Race Report (which has little to do with racing). Warning: This is long, and rambling, definitely self-indulgent, and may not have a lot to do with triathlon. 8220;You’re the laziest athlete I know,” my friend Ryan often quips, and in certain respects, he’s right (. For what it’s worth, I know where it starts. It starts where every good narrative starts: the breakup. 8220;Do you want to stay over tonight? 8220;But it’s not in your training schedule,” she says. Fast forw...

Ari O'Speedwagon: August 2009
http://ari-o-speedwagon.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 8, 2009. So I’ve signed up to volunteer at Ironman Canada this year, and while I’m there I’m going to register myself for that race in 2010. I’m going to do the Vancouver Triathlon this coming Labour Day, possibly one more tri after that, and then I’ll get down to the process of season recovery and early-stage training for next year. What on earth was I doing for six minutes and 14 seconds? Who knows, but it factors high on my list of limiters to address next season. Although I maintaine...
