When someone visits a buckskinner's camp, he might be overwhelmed by what he sees. There's the tent or teepee, all the primitive camp supplies, and of course the clothing the mountain man would wear. Where does someone begin to accumulate all this equipment? Until you get a primitive shelter. Clothing can be simplified for someone who is starting out. Some of the pieces of clothing that are never acceptable are blue jeans, t-shirts and modern "sneakers"! Patience is a virtue for this activity, believe me!

A Short History Lesson of The Mountain Man. The era of the Mountain man and Rendezvous had its beginnings in a surprisingly civilized source: the production of hats made of beaver fur. The demand for hats made from beaver fur was led by not only sophisticated city dwellers but also the military. Upwards of 100,000 beaver pelts per year were being used in the hat industry.
