Painting Hope: Israel and Rwanda

Painting Hope: Israel and Rwanda. Join Tanya on her journey creating art with Israeli and Rwandan youth. In the village we speak a lot about tikkun olam. Fixing the world, and tikkun halev. To me, they are unavoidably intertwined. When I came to. To do something good for the world, I got something for myself too. One particular incident in April reminds me of the lessons I learned at the village. I was very preoccupied with planning and executing the large mural before our big inauguration ceremony.

Painting Hope: Israel and Rwanda. Join Tanya on her journey creating art with Israeli and Rwandan youth. Epic battles and muddy mosaics. Emek HaElah", a valley just outside of Jerusalem, surrounded by hills of beige clay and dotted with green Terebinth trees, from which the valley gets its name. In the time of King Saul, this was the place of the epic battle between young David and the Philistine giant, Goliath. But how does one transform the landscape and its rich history into. A piece of art? Returning...

I am beginning my third week in this beautiful community in the Carmel Mountains, made up of over 500 teenagers from Ethiopia, Brazil, Russia, China, Georgia, Ukraine, and more. The village is also home to about thirty staff families and their children, as well as alumni of the village who still call it home and are always welcome to return.

Painting Hope: Israel and Rwanda: Painting a Massive Mural

http://tanyafredman.blogspot.com/2009/07/painting-massive-mural.html

Painting Hope: Israel and Rwanda. Join Tanya on her journey creating art with Israeli and Rwandan youth. Painting a Massive Mural. The story of creating the mural is the story of the first seven months of the village. It all began when the kids arrived at Agahozo for the first time. I asked them each to draw a picture of their personal goals, feelings about the village, and ideas about. Everyone participated in painting, kids and staff alike. Spots of color started to appear, slowly at first. Part of the...

Painting Hope: Israel and Rwanda. Join Tanya on her journey creating art with Israeli and Rwandan youth. A surprising visit to Rambam hospital. Chag sameach (happy holidays) to you from sunny Haifa! I write to you from an outdoor café where friends leisurely sip their coffee and wish each other a shana tova (good new year). It wasn’t until I joined the ninth grade on their visit to Rambam Hospital in Haifa that I understood. 8221; he asked. “Do you like living in Israel? But I hesitated as they headed to...

June 26, 2009 · 9:20 am. On Specs and Spectacles. The past week has been relatively uneventful. I’m trying as best as I can to take care of everything I need before I move from India back to the U.S., and I’m slowly but surely checking things off of my list. We’ve mostly been eating, walking, shopping, coffee-ing, and talking, with a minimal amount of touring, but primarily because the rains finally started up this week! School children after the rain. Cow in a raincoat. only in India! Fill in your detai...

Come and Gone | Bombay Dreams

A Study of Shavuot. June 6, 2009 · 11:06 am. My second day camp has come and gone. This week was an incredibly busy one, what with 10 youth and 30 children in and out of the office every day. Sunday was full of children for Gan Katan and youth for a leadership series session, led by a popular local lecturer. By the end of his program, the Szarvas youth were ready to finish their preparations for the week. By Sunday night at 7:30 pm, I was finally able to head home, for an early wakeup the next day. It wa...

Happy Shavuot | Bombay Dreams

https://arielinbombay.wordpress.com/2009/05/29/happy-shavuot

A Study of Shavuot →. May 29, 2009 · 11:37 am. Well, clearly I’m not quite celebrating Shavuot as they would at, say, Chabad, but I’m enjoying my free time in my own way: with (surprise surprise) a bagel and coffee at Bagel Shop! Hey, at least my bagel has cream cheese… and my coffee has a little milk. So I’m following the tradition of consuming dairy on Shavuot. And I might go make blintzes at a friend’s apartment tomorrow…. Rooting through the costume box. I’ve spent my evenings relaxing with goo...

Bombay Dreams | My year in Mumbai, India | Page 2

https://arielinbombay.wordpress.com/page/2

Newer posts →. May 23, 2009 · 7:45 am. This week was pretty typical: busy Sunday, lazy Monday, class Tuesday night, lazy Wednesday and Thursday. My Tanakh class is moving through the Book of 2 Samuel pretty quickly. I anticipate that before I leave, we’ll have started 1 Kings, which is exciting. Then again, I also still don’t know when departure will be… so I guess that’s an up-in-the-air statement. TV, loafcake, frosting, and milk - a happy evening. Cat joined us, then fell asleep on Sarahs leg. Familie...

On Specs and Spectacles. July 6, 2009 · 9:17 am. I cannot believe I’m leaving tonight. This year has been such a whirlwind, and it comes to a close unbelievably soon. I know I’m not leaving it all behind – there’s no way I could leave and not take it with me (in clothes, especially! After Kristin left at the end of June, my friend, and former JSC volunteer, Noah, came through Mumbai for a couple of days, which were also my last at the office. Last Gan Katan class. Nepal! | Bombay Dreams

Two Weeks →. June 21, 2009 · 1:35 pm. Wow What a week away! My vacation with Sarah to Nepal was exactly what I was hoping for. I needed a break from the usual hectic travel I’ve been doing around India, and I found it on this vacation. We landed in Kathmandu around 1:45 pm on June 7. Emilie and Sarah, reunited. Emilie is working for a few months for an Israeli NGO called Tevel B’Tzedek. It was pretty tasty, though I have to say that I’m ultimately a devotee of Mumbai chaat. Now and forever. Two Weeks | Bombay Dreams

https://arielinbombay.wordpress.com/2009/06/23/two-weeks

On Specs and Spectacles →. June 23, 2009 · 11:25 am. My days in Mumbai are dwindling. Two weeks from today (at almost exactly this time), I will be landing at JFK. What a strange thought. With my time here waning, and a college friend visiting, I’ve been doing a little last-minute touring. I revisited the Jehangir Art Gallery, the Gateway of India, and Colaba Causeway. I stopped into a favorite store for the last time, and I did my touristy street shopping (Bombay t-shirts? From my friend Melissa Weiss.

Compartiendo la luz y los contraluces. Lo escrito, lo dicho. Lo escrito, lo dicho. Al final, en el cuarto planeta encuentras lo que todo el tiempo estuvo presente.
