An unraveled life of cotton and chaos. May 26, 2016. May 26, 2016. A friend of mine is going through a shocking and traumatic divorce. There is nothing I can do or say to make any of it better, but I called to let her know I was thinking about her, a support call, for what it’s worth. During the conversation she said I was the most sheltered person she has ever known, that I have lived the most sheltered life. I agree that I am not travelled, but that in no way makes me sheltered! Defensiveness kicked in...

An unraveled life of cotton and chaos. Words can last forever. April 16, 2016. Here’s the thing. Do I want this stuff kicking around the universe after I’m dead? Do bloggers realize that long after their death their families might find their blog posts and think, oh my god, how embarrassing! I don’t want to inflict that on anyone. That made me quit writing. I regularly throw my journals in the furnace. All that’s left is the little spiral spine that Hub looks at with a puzzled expression when h...But it&...

An unraveled life of cotton and chaos. June 6, 2016. In January I decided that I could ‘whip’ this quilt up. Considering that I am not a speedy quilter I managed, with much focused dedication, to get this top pieced in 3 months. Record time for a king size! For me. I wanted it on the bed by June and after a 2 month wait for the long arm, I did manage to have this quilt on the bed by June 1st. Words can last forever. On a July night. A quilt for a time. Bored with the hoard. On Words can last forever.

An unraveled life of cotton and chaos. On a July night. July 15, 2015. This turmoil is very quiet. Outside these walls no one sees it. But as the tinder dry forest and smoke in the air create a sense of wary watchfulness, the mood of our day here can change with the wind. I find myself feeling coiled and waiting, as if something is going to happen. There might be a sudden shift in the weather pattern and I have to be ready for anything. My reaction to this has been to sew purses. I looked out the window,...

February 10, 2012 by unthinkablygoodthings. This recipe yields about 2 gallons of soup, but it freezes extremely well and is well worth the time and effort. Here is the recipe (in its original form):. 6 quarts of water. 1 whole chicken, majority of fat removed. 5 cloves of garlic, minced. 1 cup onion, diced. 1 tomato, small diced.

Highland Cattle and Grassfed Beef. October 2, 2016. The yearling heifers have spent the breeding season in the pasture right next to the house (away from any bulls), along with the bottle calves and cull cows. So they have gotten plently of attention and are turning into "in your pocket" cows. We kept back eight for our breeding program and couldn't be happier with them. Lazy Days of Summer. August 23, 2016. We snuck away for a few days to Owen Sound, Ontario for the Canadian Highland Cattle Society.
