Moments in Time | The Scoutmaster Minute
https://thescoutmasterminute.net/2015/08/12/moments-in-time
August 12, 2015. There are moments in your life where vision is realized, made clear, and action set in motion. We have lived moments that have greater meaning, cause us to be moved, and in the words that resonate through out the Order of the Arrow, we “Seek a Higher Vision”. Those moments in time are so precious. The theme of the NOAC was “It starts with us”. I did not know where they were going with that upon arrival at MSU. But it did not take long to see that there was something s...Listen to our you...

Newer posts →. January 3, 2016. Its that time of the year when we break out the winter gear and head out for some chilly, exciting winter camping adventures. I thought it was a good time to throw out some things to consider when getting out there in the cold. We will talk more about winter camping in the near future, but this short list should at least get you thinking about your winter adventure. 7 Drink a hot beverage and stoke the internal furnace before you settle in. Eating a high fat snack befo...

New Pack- Quick Look. April 12, 2015. Hey gang. Been awhile. certainly got away from my blogging goals over the last couple weeks. No real excuse other than to say other things have taken priority. In the mean time I got some new gear and I am super excited about my new Backpack. I ordered it direct from Osprey back in January, but due to the striking long shore men the pack just got here yesterday. Ah well. it is what it is. I have tried to go smaller, but find that I struggle with loading the pack and ...

My Gear | The Scoutmaster Minute
https://thescoutmasterminute.net/my-gear
In my quest for getting the right gear for the right conditions, a pack that I am comfortable with in which the load provides comfort and safety and after a year of weighing everything and tweaking like a gram weenie. I have pretty much come to the conclusion that I am not an Ultra light guy and am very comfortable with having a light backpack. I am sitting right at about 17 lbs base weight. This is very comfortable, safe, and provides the comfort that I am looking for. Here is my current set up. Like I ...

Patch Trading | The Scoutmaster Minute
https://thescoutmasterminute.net/2015/05/20/patch-trading
May 20, 2015. Then in 2010, I went to the National Jamboree. Before we left a good friend of mine, also a Scoutmaster, suggested that I get extra patches for trading. I was reluctant as I was not a patch collector or trader for that matter. Yeah, I liked to get patches and liked to go to the trade-o-ree at Conclave but a collector or trader I was not. So, I bought extra patch sets and the night before we left for Jambo I threw in a handful of patches that I had from the box into my duffel bag. Patch trad...

How Healthy is your Troop? | The Scoutmaster Minute

How Healthy is your Troop? May 13, 2015. In other words, we have systems in place to measure the Health of our units. We can look to those systems to analyze numerically how we are doing, but does it tell you the story of the health of our units? This has played out over and over again, and listening to Matt, I could see that it would play out again with him. The real measure of the health of your unit is in your Scouts. Are they staying? Are they attending activities? As I sit and listen I can’t h...

Posts Tagged With: Adventure. November 22, 2015. If you play a game that has a desired outcome or purpose it is important that you first know what that purpose is and then have some way of knowing if you achieved the results you were looking for. Reflection is an important part of every thing that we do in Scouting. It allows us to take a look back and see if we achieved the outcomes we want in playing our game. These young men learned and practiced great leadership. I was pleased to watch as members...

Author Archives: Scoutmaster Jerry. A super busy Weekend. February 21, 2016. Here’s the recap:. First, Friday night the Troop headed to the CPC’s winter lodge for a great night of fun. We stayed the night at the lodge and on Saturday morning ventured out to White River for a night in the snow. After the Blue and Gold, I changed back into my cold weather gear and headed back to White River up on Mt. Hood and met up with the Troop (camping already in progress). Thanks for hanging with the blog! But it is i...

April 18, 2015. Its never late to learn, you are never to old to figure things out… you don’t know it all. You know what famous person this quote is from? Yeahme neither. I just wrote it, but I am sure that there are lots of great leaders out there that share my sentiment when I say there are times when you have to remember to practice what you preach. I tell our Scouts that to be an effective leader you must first learn and develop the ability to be a good follower. Have a Great Scouting Day! Mission: T...
