Why did you pick this stage of development? What are the key characteristics? Curt is in the letter name or word pattern stage. He can recognize the beginning and ending sounds, notes that there are vowels inbetween, although sometimes he gets them wrong. Which is harder for a student, partner reading or DRTA?

Each Monday when the students were introduced to their new spelling list they always did a word sort.
