The curves presented here for users that feel competent enough to select a curve for tuning purposes. Keep in mind that engines run for prolonged periods in an over-advance condition will overheat and/or damage pistons! The safest approach is to start with the straight-line curve suitable for the volumetric efficiency of the engine, then step to the next curve in the family when you are assured it can take more advance. These are the advance curves that are programmed into the 123/Mini:.

Features of the 123 Performance Ignition System. Sixteen built-in user selectable ignition advance curves for the price of one! Switching to a new curve only takes as long as removing and replacing the unit, dramatically shortening the time needed to optimize engine tuning. Solid state electronics mean never having to change points or condenser again! Built in vacuum advance transducer that will never fail. Coil power is automatically switched off after 1 second of no activity.

With a new O-ring seal, the 123 distributor may be difficult to fit into the engine housing. A liberal application of grease to the seal and a bit of force will ensure the distributor slips into the hole. You can wire the 123 distributor straight to the coil, bypassing the white/black coil lead from your Mini's wiring harness: black to -ve, red to ve. Any engine running on the street should have the vacuum advance hooked up. This is a fuel economy feature which is in no way detrimental to engine perf...
