A letter from an exhausted/exasperated young person who has a complicated love/hate relationship with the church. A letter from an exhausted/exasperated young person who has a complicated love/hate relationship with the church. June 5, 2012. PART 1 of 2. Can I be honest? I find the church exhausting. At times infuriating. But there are times more often than not that it drives me absolutely crazy. I exist in a world of diversity and globalization, of extreme expression and sharing (. And they’re not comin...

Kampala Road: June 2008
http://lauratoepfer.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Reflections upon the Anglican Communion, Africa and the Episcopal Church. Reflections from my experience as a Kiva Fellow in Uganda. Limited perspective, open mind. Wednesday, June 18, 2008. I will probably have a couple more things to post as a develop film from a disposable camera I bought in my last weeks in Kampala, but if anyone is still checking out this blog and is interested, I'm going to be switching back to my other blog, "The Infusion,". A miscellany of baseball, books, and obituaries. Keeper ...

Dog Days - jan_can_too
http://jan-can-too.livejournal.com/197759.html
Jun 25th, 2012 at 7:00 AM. Summer is here and the living is complicated. I had been hoping for lazy times, fruity drinks, time in the sun. Not so much. For extra bonus points, we’ve had both my parents and Brent’s mom in town, Brent on call for work, and a Brent work trip. Sanity is slowly returning. It is really good to have so many people I love right here. I always like clearing things out. And I have a whole pile of Syd’s rejected books to read. I’m ready for the lazy, sunny part now.

Loss of another trans person (no, not Divine) - jan_can_too

Loss of another trans person (no, not Divine). May 4th, 2012 at 1:15 PM. I am looking forward to a world in which people are accepted as who they are and not killed for it. Pushes all the buttons that make me a scared mom. 1 comment Leave a comment. May 4th, 2012 09:49 pm (UTC). I'm with you on this, sweetheart. I hear you! Tis a tragic state of the heart. 1 comment Leave a comment. Powered by LiveJournal.com. Designed by Lilia Ahner.

Guns, but no alcohol or tobacco - jan_can_too
http://jan-can-too.livejournal.com/195483.html
Guns, but no alcohol or tobacco. Apr 30th, 2012 at 7:24 PM. I am pretty much the standard-issue, pro-recycling, whole-grain-eating, Prius-driving Berkeley type. But on Saturday, I went with Brent to take the Basic Handgun Safety and Marksmanship class that is, I went to shoot guns. Once before, I went to the gun range and did black powder shooting (like Pa! This time it was all about Glock 9mm. For a gun class, it was surprisingly light on NRA-type you-can-have-my-guns-when-you-pry-them-o. May 3rd, 2012 ...

Priorities at last - jan_can_too
http://jan-can-too.livejournal.com/196765.html
May 22nd, 2012 at 5:51 PM. On Monday, I woke up with the kind of anxiety I often have when I feel behind even before I get my butt out of bed. We spent a lovely weekend in Disneyland celebrating the fact that some friends of ours have been married for twenty years and like Disneyland enough to decide to go there for the occasion. Three: take care of the people I love. This is where the cooking and cleaning go, because nothing says love like not running out of underwear or like restoring food at the e...

End of Spring Reading - jan_can_too
http://jan-can-too.livejournal.com/197510.html
End of Spring Reading. Jun 8th, 2012 at 3:23 PM. Today is T.R.’s last day of school, so it is time to tally my spring reading. Not the world’s greatest totals this time around, but I have apparently been busy! Nineteen books for 7,583 pages. I’ve written about most of them already, but here’s the quick scoop on the last few I crammed in. (Yes, I am too lazy to do links. But the books aren't hard to find.). Death in the Family. I really wanted to like the stories in I, Richard. Unfortunately, Fire: Tales ...

Signs, signs, everywhere signs - jan_can_too
http://jan-can-too.livejournal.com/195790.html
Signs, signs, everywhere signs. May 1st, 2012 at 7:36 AM. This is social activist graffiti at its finest. I am more than used to seeing stop signs with further instructions (Stop Driving, is, I think, my favorite, although I’m still waiting for In the Name of Love) after so many years in Berkeley, but this takes it to a whole new and better level. Much like the fire danger signs, this new form of graffiti is updatable! 2 comments Leave a comment. May 1st, 2012 03:57 pm (UTC). May 1st, 2012 04:38 pm (UTC).
