Sometimes in my tears I drown | Teacher, Becoming.
https://teacherbecoming.wordpress.com/2012/12/15/sometimes-in-my-tears-i-drown
Sometimes in my tears I drown. I have too many thoughts going through my head right now, too much pain and need for understanding. The events of yesterday morning cut me to the core. Sometimes, the Universe gives you what you need. Today, as I stood in the kitchen, this song came on my Pandora stream:. And I remembered this video that I posted earlier this spring. Just a little inspiration for you, and for me, on this day when we try to make sense of the world and the pain and the fear. Matisyahu, One Day.
No more theory, put it into practice. | Teacher, Becoming.

No more theory, put it into practice. This quarter has been a roller coaster. December was hard. It began with a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school, on December 14. I sat down and cried, and found solace in a song. T and made my thoughts public. It was hard, but I feel it is important to always remember that our students have a lot going on in their lives that they may not tell us about, but that can immensely impact their school life. So, there’s my blog reflection for Winter Quarter. In...Yeah) s...
The best lesson | Teacher, Becoming.
https://teacherbecoming.wordpress.com/2013/02/10/the-best-lesson
Teachers at several schools around Seattle have refused to administer the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) test in the past few weeks. The boycott initially began in December, with a few teachers at Garfield High stating. The administration has reacted cautiously, especially as teachers from many other schools. But what’s the big deal? Why won’t teachers just sit down and administer this one test? Whether or not you agree with a boycott of the MAP test, it is exciting to see teachers coming together to...
Different Worlds | Teacher, Becoming.
https://teacherbecoming.wordpress.com/2013/03/10/different-worlds
On Monday, I had the opportunity to sit in on two classrooms at the school where my mom works. This school is in a wealthier district, with only 10% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch. There are some extreme differences, as well as similarities, between this school I visited, and the school where I am a teacher intern. As I mentioned above, only 10% of students at this school qualify for free or reduced lunch. I had some difficulty finding that information for my main placement school, ...
Picking up | Teacher, Becoming.
https://teacherbecoming.wordpress.com/2013/01/27/picking-up
Without going into detail, my world shattered in late December. Though things have “settled” a bit, I still find myself, in the middle of one task or another, suddenly standing still, wondering “How on earth did I get here? 8221; and “This is NOT where I am supposed to be.” And to be quite honest, I’m having a hard time focusing on anything, from cooking (which I love) to school (which I usually love). Is all about, isn’t it? Tags: A Sustainable Start. National Day of Service. The Power of Please →.

Why is subbing stressful? | ponderinged
https://ponderinged.wordpress.com/2013/01/20/why-is-subbing-stressful
Just another WordPress.com site. Why is subbing stressful? January 20, 2013. We’ve all been there, done that. Perhaps we were the super silly six year old squirming side to side, not able to sit still, blurting out our every idea, or the teacher, exasperated wondering what to do now. This week, I found myself asking why is subbing so stressful? Why do children choose to test every boundary, push every button, and seek that power of numbers with their little peer group? Looking for more ideas on classroom...

Just another WordPress.com site. March 5, 2013. This past week, I receivd this note in my school mail box. The significance is that the assignment was to write a Valentine’s Day letter to any person you would like; family, friend, teacher. Most of the children in the class chose family. I felt fortunate to know that I made a big enough difference that when presented with this opportunity, this child selected me. Filed under Primary Education. One response ». Ponderings of a teacher in training. January 21, 2013. As I researched this story even further I came upon an Op-ed piece. By one of the Garfield teachers, Jessie Hagopian.
