Well, this is a surprise! Time to do some editing of my turtle profiles! For the past three years, I had assumed that Bloopy Beans was a male, due to a slightly concave plastron and the fact that she (formerly he) was so shy that I never saw her eyes. Yesterday evening, however, Bloopy Beans surprised me by digging a hole with her back legs, which could only mean one thing–she was digging a nest! This morning, she was still in the same spot, but it appeared that her hole had been filled. June 16, 2016.

Keep informed on all things turtle (lizard, frog, and salamander) by entering an email or phone number below:. Box turtles, like so many species in heavily populated areas, are highly impacted by human activity. As a result, their populations are shrinking, primarily due to habitat loss, road deaths, and collection for the pet trade (which is illegal in New Jersey and many other states). Around the world, many other turtle species are also in decline, often for similar reasons. As Teacher Turtles grows, ...

Turtles are in trouble just about everywhere, although there are enough stories of successful conservation that we shouldn’t give up hope. Unlike frogs and salamanders, which are threatened against a widespread and highly infectious disease. Turtles are most often impacted by human activities, which can be corrected, so that turtles might be saved! The eggs have started hatching! Well, this is a surprise! Funding for an idea whose time has come. What’s a sideneck turtle? Next Generation Science Standards.

Teacher turned mommy... not as easy as it sounds!
What summer means to me. Looking back on my life summer has had so many different meanings in my life. When I was a child: I remember summer being a time of freedom. Staying up late, playing outside, waiting for the ice cream truck. It meant bike riding, swimming and making up games with friends. It meant getting up early and staying out until the street lights came on. We went to soccer camp, community boating, and participated in other camps. Summer means a break from reality. When I became a mother to...

Teacher Turned Stay at Home Mom
Teacher Turned Stay at Home Mom. View my complete profile. Tuesday, May 5, 2015. I had such high hopes for May and June: trips to the arboretum that is literally 3 minutes away, afternoons at the zoo, exploring new parks. I wanted to give the kiddos an extra fun spring considering July and August outings might be slightly limited. Plus, we are strongly considering enrolling Isla in school for first grade, so I wanted to take advantage of all of our time together! Tuesday, April 14, 2015. The one thing th...
