Be the change you want to see in the world
May | 2016 | The Itinerant Teacher
https://teacherwithoutborders.wordpress.com/2016/05
Be the change you want to see in the world. I work full time, study online, and have taken up a field of education that may be considered practice-oriented. Other than PhD residencies, will I not have a chance to be surrounded by other scholars-in-training? Do I even need a PhD fellowship to achieve this goal? Is it possible to build a PhD network without being associated with a well-known, prestigious foundation? Will it be enough to join professional associations and attend their conferences?

Be the change you want to see in the world. Getting my blog going again. My first sketch of The Itinerant Teacher. On 29 January 2010, I published my first post. What followed were 9 others posts that got very moderate traction on the blogsphere, as well as some interesting comments, a couple of which I suspect came from disgruntled students. I suppose I could focus on why I abandoned my blog, but I feel that would require me to live in the past. Who wants to do that? Blog, like Steve Wheeler. Create a f...

Be the change you want to see in the world. 8220;When I Speak, You Listen! So, how do I get all of the students to listen to me when I want them to? I’m still working on that. Finding a good bookstore. Like many bloggers, I am also a reader. Though since being in the gulf, I have not read as much. Why? Unfortunately, repositories of knowledge are absent in my current home. A public library? I’ve never heard of it here. A good bookstore? On trying to become somebody. I want to do? Many teachers in my part...

Be the change you want to see in the world. As part of my ongoing personal and professional development, I am going to include a new focus of my blog that will address a variety of issues that emerge in the course of my PhD in Education program at Walden University. My specialization, Organizational Research, Assessment, and Evaluation (ORAE), prepares scholar-practitioners to become professional evaluators who are cognizant of their social and ethical responsibilities when conducting evaluations. Retrie...

Be the change you want to see in the world. Battle of Ft. Wagner. After the Lesson: World War I Review (12 December 2011). I decided not to go to work today. Not because I was sick or I just did not want to go to work. I just needed a day off. It was nice to not have to be bothered with the hustle and bustle of the working life. I think this important for us to take time out for ourselves. How else can we maintain our sanity? Ever since I sat down to read Barbara Kingsolver’s memoir,. As you can see, I a...

ScholarStudio Blog: A Resource for Graduate Writers and Advisors. May 14, 2016 /. Retreat Yo’ Self! In Praise of the Writing Retreat. I am writing this from a state park forty miles outside of Portland where, for $40 a night, I have what can only be described as writerly bliss: a cabin of my own with very limited internet. Binge writing has a bad rap, but I am here to argue that we should still make space for the extended writing session. But I am still a fan of the writing retreat. A change of location.

Teacher with an iPad
Teacher with an iPad. Sunday, September 18, 2011. When I wrote my professional goals for the current school year, there were two main themes:. To increase my knowledge of current technology tools and integrate them into instruction, and. To promote healthy, life-long habits for my students, including a greater awareness of healthy food options. Best of all, the kids are reading about, talking about, and eating new and healthy foods. So I am putting this blog on hold and switching horses mid-stream (somet...

This blog pretends to talk about the main problems in education and share tools to solve them, looking learning from a different perspective. March 31, 2017. Or should my title be Hello, Blog? This week has gotten away from me with block schedules of 3 nearly 2 hour classes each day. That is simply too long to spend with the same group of kids. *sigh* Soon (in retirement) I probably wont have enough to keep me busy, in spite of a zillion repair and organizational projects around here. The problem is that I dont feel like doing any of them! Have you ever noticed that for every event there is a flip side? The flip side of this is that, as usual,...
