Teaching Good Eaters

Letting Go, and Letting Kids Create in the Kitchen. Since this week has essentially become confession week. Here at Teaching Good Eaters, I have another one to make. I am not a naturally fun person. This was made abundantly clear this past weekend when my husband and kids discussed a snowshoeing "adventure," in the woods. As I got up to get ready, my daughter said, "You're not coming, are you mom? Since starting to read the book, Hands Free Mama. I've always been a proponent of kids in the kitchen. Sure ...

Teaching Good Eaters: The Lunchables Experiment

http://teachinggoodeaters.blogspot.com/2014/01/the-lunchables-experiment.html

My life is full of "I would nevers.". Especially when it comes to parenthood. All those things that I said I would NEVER do… until I did. The truth is, I never thought I would be THAT mom. You know, the one who feeds her kids "healthy" food. THAT one. The one whose sole purpose is to make her kids the "weird ones" while simultaneously making other moms feel bad about what they feed their kids. Yep. That's me. If you've been following along on Facebook. You know that last week, my kids requested Lunchables.

Teaching Good Eaters: Are Fun Lunches Just the Domain of a Supermom Wannabe?

http://teachinggoodeaters.blogspot.com/2013/10/are-fun-lunches-just-domain-of-supermom.html

Are Fun Lunches Just the Domain of a Supermom Wannabe? Before the first day of school, my daughter asked if I would make a "fun lunch." To be honest, I was not very enthusiastic. When I started the blog, I discovered muffin tin meals. Lunches. I realized that presentation really did make a big difference in getting my kids to eat better food. It was a great way to make healthy food seem like a treat. That other moms were making and I knew that even if I wanted to, I could never keep up. Fast forward to t...

Teaching Good Eaters: Are You a Chicken?

http://teachinggoodeaters.blogspot.com/2014/01/are-you-chicken.html

Are You a Chicken? Yes, that is a turkey. I thought of the title, and was rather proud of myself for it, and then remembered that, oh yes, that's right, I'm making a turkey. I have never made a turkey before. My mom thinks I'm brave in the kitchen. Usually, it takes me forever to try something new. (Case in point: despite the fact that I make chicken broth all the time, I have beef bones that have been in my freezer since September. Today, at 3:00 pm I realized that I needed to make that turkey. Starting...

Teaching Good Eaters: "Better Than Starbucks" Pumpkin Bread

http://teachinggoodeaters.blogspot.com/2012/06/better-than-starbucks-pumpkin-bread.html

Better Than Starbucks" Pumpkin Bread. My kids and I have been hooked on Starbucks pumpkin bread, but it's pricey, and is (at least I assume) made with white, instead of whole wheat flour. About a year ago, I did a search for Starbucks pumpkin bread and found a recipe on Mrs. Southern Bride. I subbed whole wheat flour for white, cut back on the sugar a bit, and was pretty satisfied with the results. It was good, and I made it often (usually as muffins instead of bread.). Pumpkin Bread or Muffins. I recent...

A House of...: January 2012

http://ahouseof.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

160;Monday, January 30, 2012 –  Food. Last week we had a snow day, and no snow day would be complete without a snow lunch. So we had my version of snowmen on a stick. A snowflake tortilla with powdered sugar, snowflake quesadillas, and some coconut yogurt. For the snowmen I used chopped pieces of raisin to make the faces and buttons, with a little slice of carrot for the nose, and then completely forgot about their arms. I put the bananas on a bamboo skewer I cut in half. 160; Posted by Abby. 160;  .
