Teaching is Forever

A blog about teaching, math, and teaching math. Monday, September 30, 2013. The Proof is in the Pudding.or the Proof Practice Book! The most recent stop on my journey into the world of teaching Geometry was introducing proofs. Let me tell you, this is a giant shift in thinking from my Algebra 1 roots. Same steps, new justification. Lovely. The good news is, my kids seem to really get it (at least so far! Here is what the Proof Practice Book looks like (I forgot to rotate a few pics.sorry):. Teaching is Forever: About Me

http://www.teachingisforever.blogspot.com/p/about-me.html

A blog about teaching, math, and teaching math. My name is Sarah Wright. I am gearing up to start my fourth year as a middle school math teacher. During my first three years of teaching I taught a combination of regular 8th grade math (which is basically pre-algebra), accelerated 7th grade math (which was more of an "honors" pre-algebra), and Algebra 1. This year I will be teaching regular 8th grade math, Algebra 1, and Geometry (all to 8th graders). July 15, 2014 at 10:42 AM. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Teaching is Forever: Pinterest is working for me!!!

http://www.teachingisforever.blogspot.com/2013/08/pinterest-is-working-for-me.html

A blog about teaching, math, and teaching math. Saturday, August 10, 2013. Pinterest is working for me! I have to admit up front: I am not the most creative or artsy person. I love seeing ideas and things, but I usually end up thinking something along the lines of, "yeah right" when I think of actually making something myself. That being said, Pinterest has made me bold. I keep seeing really cute stuff that looks do-able for someone like me! 199 beveled white board (from Michael's).

Teaching is Forever: Did you document that?

http://www.teachingisforever.blogspot.com/2013/08/did-you-document-that.html

A blog about teaching, math, and teaching math. Saturday, August 3, 2013. Did you document that? One of the things that I felt the least prepared for after graduating college was the world of parent contact, discipline, and documenting both. As a first year teacher this was slightly overwhelming. Why? Because a large portion of the expected documentation isn't standardized for every teacher! I heard things such as:. Make sure you document that phone call home! Did you write down that intervention? My thi...

Teaching is Forever: Classroom Decorations!

http://www.teachingisforever.blogspot.com/2013/08/classroom-decorations.html

A blog about teaching, math, and teaching math. Saturday, August 17, 2013. I'm one of those middle school teachers that really likes to have a decorated classroom. Now I know that 8th graders are getting older and aren't in elementary school anymore, but that doesn't mean that they should sit in a bland cookie-cutter room every day. Plus, I spend hours in my classroom each day, and I don't want it to be bland either! All that to say, I have been busy decorating, and I'm pretty pleased with the result.

Teaching is Forever: Bulletin Board Decorating

http://www.teachingisforever.blogspot.com/2013/08/bulletin-board-decorating.html

A blog about teaching, math, and teaching math. Tuesday, August 6, 2013. Today I went up to my school to get a head start on decorating my classroom for this school year. There wasn't any AC in the building today so it was HOT, but I did get quite a bit accomplished. I got started on my new word wall, which looks really good so far. I ran out of tape halfway through though, so that pursuit was put on hold until later. Who posted a link to Entirely Elementary.School Counseling. Here is my finished product:.

Teaching is Elementary

Sunday, June 7, 2015. YOU Made a Difference. Grade 4 Class of 2006-2007. As teachers we often wonder if we "make a difference" in the lives of our students. In reality and in our hearts we know that somewhere in our career, we MUST have positively impacted someone.). But, I wonder do our students ever WONDER if they have made a difference in OUR life? I'm not so sure they think too long about it as they progress to the next level. Today some of my former students graduate. They told me about their likes,...

January 24, 2013. Anyone else still missing their old class? Teaching Students to Be Persistent. November 19, 2012. November 12, 2012. Over the course of this semester, my classroom management has mostly expanded. I had mostly theoretical ideas about what I would do, and I have mostly tested them for whether they actually work in the classroom. I feel that. 8211; routines need to be established early. 8211; consistency is huge! 8211; you should treat students as responsible. 8211; rewarding good behavior.

Teaching is Insanity

Teaching is a noble, respectable profession that only the most dedicated, intelligent, passionate, and decent human beings should be doing. However, we are scaring them off. Hopefully, sharing my experience and those of other stellar teachers will help others see teachers, the students, and the public education system as whole, in a more positive light. Monday, May 27, 2013. End of the School Year (Take 2): B.A.N.A.N.A.S! Yet, here I am! Sure, but all things considered, I'll take it! I feel like if I got...
