Teaching Learning & Innovation: April 2016

http://teachinglearningandinnovation.blogspot.com/2016_04_01_archive.html

Teaching Learning and Innovation. This is how we roll. Thursday, April 28, 2016. The Start of Flexible Seating. It’s my sixth year of teaching and I feel like I'm changing something. Yearin a good way I'd say:) This year, the big change was creating a flexible learning environment for my students. Our tech coach (Mandy Froehlich) wanted “rockstar" teachers.Although I am not a rockstar teacher yet, I decided to take on this challenge to help me become one! Shortly after this I informed my parents about th...

Teaching Learning & Innovation: Embracing the “Innovator’s Mindset” as a Pre-Service Teacher

http://teachinglearningandinnovation.blogspot.com/2016/05/embracing-innovators-mindset-as-pre.html

Teaching Learning and Innovation. This is how we roll. Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Embracing the “Innovator’s Mindset” as a Pre-Service Teacher. One of the first and greatest takeaways from this course had to do with technology use. On day one, Mandy Froehlich ( @froehlichm. The adjunct professor teaching this course, introduced the class to George Couros’ ( @gcouros. Book, The Innovator’s Mindset. Or should class be a total instructional video? Seriously, let go of the scepticism for a minute, and give a Twi...

Reflections on Modern Teaching: About Me

http://mandyfroehlich.blogspot.com/p/about-me.html

I am passionate about learning and my profession in general, but my two favorite components of my position are being able to provide professional development to teachers and present at conferences. I believe that by providing these opportunities to teachers, I am in turn able to reach many more. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Director of Innovation and Technology. Oneword for 2017: Relentless. Reflections on Modern Teaching: January 2017

http://mandyfroehlich.blogspot.com/2017_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 16, 2017. Sounds Good in Theory. How do we, as teachers, make everything we teach relevant to students? Again, we know what sounds good in theory.how do we implement it? I decided I would be engaged if I could create my own goal and work toward something meaningful. Well, guess what? The PDP process allows for that, which means that my attitude toward the PDP is really about my mindset. If that's the case, are students' learning and motivation about their mindset as well? The Kids Get It.

Reflections on Modern Teaching: Would you do what you're asking of your students?

http://mandyfroehlich.blogspot.com/2016/11/would-you-do-what-youre-asking-of-your.html

Sunday, November 20, 2016. Would you do what you're asking of your students? It would be uncomfortable and possibly confrontational. Yet, we tell students to handle the situation immediately, which leaves them frustrated, angry and less likely to be able to process the situation they way they could have otherwise. Reflections on Modern Teaching: October 2016

http://mandyfroehlich.blogspot.com/2016_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 30, 2016. I'm Not a Natural. A few weeks ago, my friend George Couros. Wrote a blog post called No Shortage of Road. And reading it made me smile because I could really relate to it. Basically, the post is about how he used to be able to run marathons and loved running, and now he doesn't and it's painful, and how sometimes it's hard to see what's behind you because you're so busy looking at the people passing you. So true, and it's inspired me to write my own blog post. I feel like we fi...

Reflections on Modern Teaching: November 2016

http://mandyfroehlich.blogspot.com/2016_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 29, 2016. Defining Educationese and Creating a Common Language. Education has so many buzzwords at any given time. We take these words, throw them into goals that we create, revamp our mission and vision statements to include them, and expect teachers and students to meet the goals. What we often don't do is define what the words mean to the district. How the district defines any particular word that is used as a driver for learning. The term innovation. Reflections on Modern Teaching: February 2016

http://mandyfroehlich.blogspot.com/2016_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 25, 2016. SLedCamp (Student Led edCamps). A couple of months ago, I was introduced to the idea of Student Led edCamps. Being a Public Relations Coordinator for edCamp Oshkosh and a total believer in the power of the learning that can happen through an edCamp, I was all for trying the idea out. All I needed were some. Teachers who would be willing to work through what it would look like when it was implemented. Lucky for me, three of my fifth grade teachers were up for the challenge.

Reflections on Modern Teaching: June 2016

http://mandyfroehlich.blogspot.com/2016_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 4, 2016. How Do We Change Teachers' Perceptions of PD? Last school year, I came up with the idea of creating a Google Apps for Education "Track". Instead of teachers attending one hour sessions on a specific Google App, myself and another Technology Integrator, Matt Callahan. I learned a ton but it took me way longer than it should have.". Why do we need discussion boards? It seems useless to need to talk to other people about this.". If I just finish five modules, can I get five points?

Wednesday, March 23, 2016. Just Keep Swimming or Create Real Change? Last night, I was participating in one of my very favorite Twitter chats: #PersonalizedPD (Tuesdays, 8pm CST). Question seven was regarding what we've done to try to bring personalized PD to our district, and this was my post:. Monday, March 21, 2016. How Do We Move Toward a More Personalized PD Experience? Go through the online modules face to face. While I am proud of the Track and the opportunities it provides for teachers who mi...

Teaching Learning and Innovation. This is how we roll. Wednesday, June 8, 2016. When in doubt, do it. I don't feel well today. (Which is truly terrible as it is a gorgeous day outside on a long weekend! I made myself go to school today to get sub plans ready. Now, I could (should) be resting so I could get better, but as soon as I tried, I panicked. How is this sub going to manage my room with the flexible seating? They were so excited about it they wanted to start that day! Here are the 3 rules we have ...

Even though you probably have no real world examples of such a thing most people are easily able to conjure up an image. The question is how are we able to do this and where is all this taking place? For many, the answer is that it happens in the mind. But what exactly is the mind? How do we build up an understanding? Project is in its.
