Teaching Mom

Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Ask Who I Am, Not What". The other day, a student sent me a link to a story. About a video called, “10 Reasons I don’t want to be an Asian.” The college student who made the video aired his offensive views casually and plainly, as if he were telling how he learned to play violin or how he got interested in electrical engineering. E racism and ignorance and meanness of this. Student’s “joke” make far. Less sense than if it had happened a hundred years ago. 8220;White people cont...

Teaching Mom: May 2011

http://teachingmomblog.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 21, 2011. Got a moment to read some students' work? This week, I am writing end of the year reports, so I won't be posting anything of my own, although my fingers are busy on the keyboard! However, my kind daughter typed all the poems that my class was ready to share and I posted them on Jan's 4-5 Blog. Please visit, read, leave a comment if you have a moment. Posted by Jan Campbell. Saturday, May 14, 2011. The best thing about making lesson plans is that they can change! Okay," I answered,...

Teaching Mom: April 2011

http://teachingmomblog.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 21, 2011. I'm a mom. I'm a teacher. The lines are rarely that clear. The schedule: well, we do our best with that one. When the dance classes and rehearsals are an hour away and last for three to four hours on a school night, we have a late night and sectioning off the homework part of the day is challenging. Solution: drop some dance classes, so this only hits twice a week and we all do the best we can with that. And, once in a while, the snags are bigger. How can we ever catch up? Thank...

Teaching Mom: When the going is tough. . .

http://teachingmomblog.blogspot.com/2012/01/when-going-is-tough.html

Sunday, January 8, 2012. When the going is tough. . . We've all faced those moments when we think we have to give up, get out, go back; it's too much. And then, more times than not, we keep going anyway. Maybe we don't finish first or come out with the results we dreamed of, but by then, just having kept on going is first prize enough. The information I gathered came from several sources, but this Vanity Fair article. I love getting deeply into these stories! Posted by Jan Campbell. Subscribe to: Post Co...

Teaching Mom

http://teachingmomblog.blogspot.com/2012/06/short-story-once-there-was-little-girl.html

Friday, June 15, 2012. Many years later, when her oldest daughter was ready to choose a high school, Jan visited her old school again. It felt so great to be back among loving friends and excited students that Jan decided to find someone else to work long hours at the chocolate store. It was time to return to teaching. She also plans to help the host families and the new students from China! She’ll be at school sometimes and is excited to see colleagues and students whenever she can!

If you've enjoyed the post about the Branson Merry Miss Primary Class and the giant Teddy Bears that represented their future children, Eleven Year Old Girls Anticipate their Children. This is at least ANOTHER PART of that story. Far from home with a daughter about the same age - teaching that Primary Class was an inspiration!
