Please note: you can find a more up to date version of this blog at http:/ blog.neilennis.com. Sunday, June 29, 2014. Ever since my first visit to beautiful North Stradbroke Island last year with Jonathan. I’ve wanted to return and explore it on the bike. When Jason suggested we catch the ferry across this weekend, I jumped at the opportunity. 8220;As idle as a painted ship. Upon a painted ocean.”. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. As we slowly climbed the steep hills behind Dunwich towards Rainbow Cresen...

Sunday, June 14, 2015. 8220;I wonder what’s at the end of this valley? 8220;How far could I get if I follow that road? Some weeks I gaze intently into a map and almost magically my friends and I are transported to that place several days later to answer my questions. This week we came back with Darb, Russel and Jason, enjoying the crunchy gravel back roads in the remote hills of the upper Lockyer Valley. Eileen...

Please note: you can find a more up to date version of this blog at http:/ blog.neilennis.com. Monday, January 26, 2015. My friend Wayne had been planning an overnight ride from Brisbane to Caloundra and back for a couple of months. After heavy rain during the days preceding the ride, he decided to cancel it. But we decided to “turn up” anyway and see what happened…. The least enjoyable part of a bike ride to the Sunshine Coast is having to deal with the heavy traffic in Morayfield. This time we avoi...

Please note: you can find a more up to date version of this blog at http:/ blog.neilennis.com. Saturday, February 21, 2015. After recent heavy rain, creek beds which were bone dry for a couple of years are now flowing. I thought this would be a good opportunity to revist some those creeks and enjoy the rare sight. I’ve spent the last ten days recovering from knee surgery which means I can’t drive or ride a bike. On fun rides up into the Mt Mee Section of D’Aguilar National Park. The final causeway at the...

Please note: you can find a more up to date version of this blog at http:/ blog.neilennis.com. Sunday, May 25, 2014. Every so often we’re lucky enough to do a ride which I’d call “Iconic” – something that reminds us how lucky we are to be able to explore this beautiful land on our bikes, and makes us want to bring friends back to see it with us. I think today’s adventure through Cannon Creek in the “Scenic Rim” between Boonah and Rathdowney is one of those iconic rides. At the top of Geiger Road we were ...

Please note: you can find a more up to date version of this blog at http:/ blog.neilennis.com. Sunday, April 26, 2015. Black Duck Creek Adventure. We’ve explored the spectacular Black Duck Creek. On this ANZAC Day holiday, we thought we’d invite a few more friends to explore it with us. So I was delighted when 46 eager Mountain Bikers turned up. We met at a picnic ground at Junction View, south of Gatton. But first we took a short detour up Chalk Mine Road to a special place…. As we rolled back down this...

Political Musings: July 2009
http://polmusings.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Politics at its Best. Some really good things happen in the Australian Parliament at times. But sadly they receive little media coverage, because the stories aren’t as immediately exciting as some of the more tawdry events. For example, how many column-inches, how much air-time has been wasted on the “Ute-Gate” saga about fake emails, and prime-ministerial favours to political donors? These people came to our shores for help, and we were treating them worse than criminals.

Political Musings: Nailing My Colours
http://polmusings.blogspot.com/2015/01/nailing-my-colours.html
Tuesday, January 06, 2015. We have a state election in Queensland on 31 January. I’ve decided to support the Greens, even though I’ve been a conservative voter for the last 30 years, own a small business, and care about our economy. I could give you a long manifesto about why I’ve come to this decision, but I’ll keep it simple:. For the last six years I’ve immersed myself in the environment of South East Queensland. My bicycle tyre tracks are all over it. You can read more about that here.
