Viewing posts from February, 2014. Cruise Day 8: Lund to Tenedos Bay. 2 years, 6 months ago. We steamed north with a destination of Tenedos Bay. Tenedos would turn out to be our favorite anchorage of the trip. It was spectacular and very rewarding to pull around the corner of Sarah Point and into the entrance of Desolation Sound. The mountains were beautiful, rising straight up from the water and revealing peaks like we see on the North Cascades Highway. The girls nicknamed Tenedos Bay Jellyfish City due...

Viewing posts from September, 2013. Day 6: Garden Bay at Pender Harbor. 2 years, 11 months ago. The day was hot and calm. The water in the middle of the strait was a remarkable 65 degrees F. There is talk of just idling in the strait and going for a swim. I never got the actual name of the place but the description seemed to match what the Waggoner says about the Garden Bay Pub and Restaurant and Marina so that’s where we go. Turns out no fried oysters. Must be some other place in Pender Harbor. Pender H...

Viewing posts from November, 2012. Is it OK to celebrate the motto hard work beats talent? 3 years, 9 months ago. I saw something in some communications from Seattle Prep that has been stuck in my head for a few days, so I am going to try to work it out of my head through this post. Apparently the football team has some tshirts that say something like "Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Fails to Work Hard.". Elizabeth confirmed this is indeed a thing. Say "you are such a hard worker! It seems that they a...

Viewing posts from October, 2013. Why Washington states health exchange problems go much further than you think they do. 2 years, 10 months ago. I suspect that gets into politics and rent seeking behaviors on the part of lobbyists trying to get their piece of the ACA pie, with a little bit of Not Invented Here syndrome thrown in for good measure. Probably. Could they have done gold-plated stress and load testing to avoid them? Probably. Would it be worth the up-front cost? The problem is that the site is...

Viewing posts by pat. Red Skeleton gets a brain transplant. I think this is Red Skeleton's fourth year. Last year I grew more and more dissatisfied with Red's performance and vowed to make some updates. My three goals were:. Make the lip synch of the jaw movements more closely match the audio. Replace moving parts in the electronics that might be contributing to instability. Reduce the noise from the servo motor driving Red's jaw. Out With the Wave Shield, in with the Audio FX. I put the servo into a ply...
