Funky Monks and Terracotta Warriors on The Silk Road | TEFL RECALL

https://teflrecall.wordpress.com/2012/10/26/funky-monks-and-terracotta-warriors-on-the-silk-road

My Adventures Teaching English Abroad. Funky Monks and Terracotta Warriors on The Silk Road. October 26, 2012 – 11:24 pm. We were on the edge of the Tibetan plateau, to go further west for a few days in Xiahe and the Lebrang Monastery. Lebrang is the largest Buddhist monastery in China (outside of Tibet) and required a further 6 hour bus trip South West from Lanzhou. We’re currently on our last night in Xi’an, before heading to Zhenjiang to settle and start teaching. Xi’an is probably the most user-frien...

If Marrakech Is As Hot As A Dragon’s Fart… (transcribed from journal) | TEFL RECALL

https://teflrecall.wordpress.com/2012/10/16/if-marrakech-is-as-hot-as-a-dragons-fart-transcribed-from-journal

My Adventures Teaching English Abroad. If Marrakech Is As Hot As A Dragon’s Fart… (transcribed from journal). October 16, 2012 – 9:35 pm. As I write this, I’m sitting in a yurt in Inner Mongolia, wearing 5 layers and holding my pen through thick, woolen gloves. We took the sleeper train (luxury compared to our former modes of transport) from HK for a one night stopoff in Beijing before grabbing a cheap flight up to Hohhot on the 13th. We left early this morning and arrived at a little farmstead with a co...

Broken Flip-flops | A great WordPress.com site | Page 2

https://brokenflipflop.wordpress.com/page/2

A great WordPress.com site. Philippines Airlines is one of the hidden gems of the world, and its coffee cheese cake desert ranks among not only the best airline food that I’ve eaten, but one of the best cheese cakes I’ve eaten. Turns out that a company from Manila called Rebekah’s Confectioneries. Needless to say we were not overly excited about our overnight wait. Turns out that cheesecake isn’t the only thing the Filipinos have done right. The fantastic Manila airport transfer lounge. And whilst I can’...

Year of the Duck | thewanderingduck

https://thewanderingduck.wordpress.com/2016/02/06/year-of-the-duck

The greatest WordPress.com site in all the land! Best of the Chinglish. Year of the Duck. The ram is charging out. The monkey is swinging in. And I’m still here. Or so I thought. The exciting has been there though, and some of it I’ve felt genuinely bad about not immediately sharing. But a lot of it, most even, I didn’t see the potential in until much later. So behold, better late than never, a bunch of things that happened since the end of 2014! Our time in Kangding was spent wandering and breathing as ...

Past Travel Adventures | thewanderingduck

https://thewanderingduck.wordpress.com/past-travel-adventures

The greatest WordPress.com site in all the land! Best of the Chinglish. On Traffic In India. 2011. The closest I’ve ever felt to flying was in Jaipur, India. The day was pregnant with impenetrable heat and we had been teaching mime in a slum school. But that was over, and I was needed across the city, to teach origami to a small group of prep school teachers. There were three of us, and only one extremely weathered motorbike. There were no helmets. Not here. Back home I drive a car. Agra belongs to its r...

https://thewanderingduck.wordpress.com/best-of-the-chinglish

The greatest WordPress.com site in all the land! Best of the Chinglish. Best of the Chinglish. A purse I found in Beijing – “You are my heart, you are my liver, you are my life 3/4.”. On my room mate’s pillow case (which otherwise has nothing but “HORSE” printed on it) – “If you like a people and stabbed someone else saying no matter how many times do you say I am loving youyou take a knife and stabbed someone.”. On an exercise book – “Because professional. So wonderful.”. At Ciqikou Ancient Town. I foun...

January | 2014 | Broken Flip-flops

https://brokenflipflop.wordpress.com/2014/01

A great WordPress.com site. Monthly Archives: January 2014. New Blog New Travel. And whilst I can’t say that I’m not excited about dusting off my broken, worn-in brown Ape flip-flops, who have carried me safely through the US, Morocco, China, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam over the past five years. It is with the bitter-sweetness of leaving behind the students that I’ve grown so close to during my nearly 2 years in China. When I started my last blog ( http:/ teflrecall.wordpress.com. The Plan: On leavin...

TEFL RECALL | My Adventures Teaching English Abroad

My Adventures Teaching English Abroad. The Doctor Will See You Now. March 13, 2013 – 4:54 am. Being someone who only sparingly goes to the doctor – I typically need to be in some kind of searing pain or after some travel jabs – it was with some trepidation that I discovered yesterday that I’d need to go to a health clinic to get a physical before getting my permanent work visa. The paperwork done, thus became a scavenger hunt of collecting signatures as we ticked off the necessary department visits.

teflresearch | Bringing language research into the classroom

July 12, 2015 · 5:50 pm. Let’s just laugh. Originally posted on soundtrek. Everyone makes embarassing mistakes when they learn another language. I spent my whole year abroad in Italy telling people that I had 23 asses (ho 23 ani), instead of saying I was 23 years old (ho 23 anni). But mistakes are a normal part of learning. It’s our attitude to them which makes the difference between being afraid to open our mouths and getting stuck, or having fun and learning. May 17, 2015 · 4:48 pm. Language learning i...
