Isilo The Biggest Tusker. Isilo from Tembe was the largest Elephant Tusker in Southern Africa. A "Tusker" is an Elephant whose Tusks exceed 100lbs ( 45.45kg) ). Isilo" Zulu for King, this page is now dedicated to the Late "Isilo" the elephant of Tembe Elephant Park, Isilo died of natural causes in January 2014. Here is a video tribute to Isilo:. Orchids are one of my favourite flowers. They always look so delicate, yet I think that they, like some people, have an underlying strength. I was playing around with trying to photograph droplets on the petals. My efforts were not very successful, but they did not detract from the exotic beauty of the flowers. Away in the wild…. I can’t believe that it has been so long since I posted a blog! I thought I had done so last month! How time flies…. Earlier this year we went to Tembe Elephant Park. Up in northern Kwazulu-Natal. This is a small game park in South Africa, but is a great place to visit. Whilst we did not get to see any of the big cats, we certainly had some wonderful sightings. Just a couple of shots taken at the waterhole…. Let me rest my weary tusk…. I’m the boss of you…. Another Time Away….

An Oxpecker thrusts it head into the ear of an impala looking for a meal. Wild anmlas are infested with ticks and parasites. The bird is tolerated by the animals and one often sees a number of birds on a single animal.

The African white-backed vulture is the most common vulture in Southern Africa. This vulture is dependant on smaller vultures to lead it to a kill. Once it lands at a kill its black and white plumage makes it readily visible to other vultures. In this way many birds can feed as a collective and makes it much easier than a single bird looking for a meal over a large area. The vulture would eat any car ion. From elephants to wildebeest and it would not be uncommon. Is stripped bare in a matter of hours.
