Labrador Sweet: October 2014
http://labradorsweet.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, 12 October 2014. It's hard to believe that it's been two months since I've written. Amy started grade three, her last year at our amazing primary school. Her new teacher has been excellent. Rylie is now in grade one and in school all day. I'm very grateful that she is just across the hall from Amy. We took advantage of medtronics travel program. Thankfully we had no issues with Amy's pump. I think our biggest mistake was grossly underestimating the number of carbs in an alcohol free pina colada!

Labrador Sweet: July 2014

Monday, 21 July 2014. Today was the first day that both girls went to Summer Day Camp. Although schools been out for several weeks now, we are only just starting a new routine. First we took a short trip to Dartmouth for Canada Day, then Amy had strept throat, then both girls had the chicken pox. At 3pm I get another call, her sugar is 18 and it won't give a correction because of the amount of insulin already on board. I asked her to put Amy on the phone and had her put on a temp basal. I also ga...A lot...

Labrador Sweet: April 2014
http://labradorsweet.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 8 April 2014. Another reason I know my baby is growing up, is she has her first crush! He's an adorable little boy in her class. They play well together, he comes to our cabin to play in the snow, sliding and snowmobiling,. I'm excited because I know I wouldn't worry (as much) if Amy wanted to play at their house. The mom is actually going to coach their soccer team this spring. She knows what to do. The little boy knows what to look for in Amy if something isn't quite right,. Death of a Pancreas.

Thursday, 16 July 2015. An Little Update and a Little Look Forward. How do I let three months pass without posting! 1) school is out for the summer and the girls are at their Nanny's for the summer. They are both completed swimming crash courses. I'm hoping for them to pass Red Cross level 1 and 2. I've never had them in lessons before because we have a very archaic system here and I wasn't going to stand in line for 8 hours to register them. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Tuesday, 17 September 2013. Tuesday Tidbit: New Sensor Location. Well this saturday, with a little bribe from me and Maplelea. Amy let her father try her arm. Sorry about the orientation, its from my phone and I couln't get it to rotate. I'm happy to say that the sensor is working amazingly and we have some of the best correlation of sensor and blood glucose results that we have ever had. We are hoping that in the next few weeks she will let us try the upper thigh. What about another CGM sensor? Destinat...

Labrador Sweet: March 2015
http://labradorsweet.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Friday, 13 March 2015. It only took three years. We just returned from the city for Amy's diabetes clinic appointment. Every 3-4 months we fly to the Province's capitol city where the Janeway Children's Hospital is located. Thankfully we have insurance and all but a vehicle is paid for. Then we were on our way. Yesterday I received an email from our CDE. Excellent news, A1C is 7.4%. The target for kids ages 6-12 in Canada is /= 7.5%. After three years.we finally reached target. And I know that it can go ...

Labrador Sweet: November 2013

Monday, 18 November 2013. Taking a break.and I don't mean from Diabetes. Although somedays I wish it were possible. I want to start by saying I love the idea of a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM). I love the information that it can give you. I love that it can predict lows before they happen, and I love that if Amy were to go low overnight that the pump would shut off for two hours. What I don't love is the lows that are predicted in the nighttime that aren't really lows. I think I will let her take the ...

Labrador Sweet: August 2014
http://labradorsweet.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, 7 August 2014. That's a lot of blood. Who knew that the scalp bled so much! Added to our growing list of ailments for the summer is a split head. The most frightening thing I've experienced with the girls so far.even scarier than the T1D diagnosis was this past weekend. Next things happened pretty quick. In true horror movie fashion, the door swings open, Amy has her hands cupped in front of her, with a pool of blood, blood streaming down her face, and a very scared "someone help me". I got the...

Tuesday, 21 January 2014. Girl Guides of Canada is a wonderful organization, ran by dedicated volunteers. For ages 7-8 the program is called Brownies, they meet once a week for an hour and a a half. The focus is to encourage the girls to develop their own identity and positive relationships with others. The program covers safety, healthy choices, science and technology, the arts, Eco-awareness and camping. They can earn badges for activities performed as the group or as self learning as well. I had a mix...

Labrador Sweet: October 2013

Tuesday, 29 October 2013. As a D-Mom, there is nothing better than being told you're doing a good job! The truth isn't always in the numbers, I mean you can have a descent A1C, but that doesn't tell you how much time or effort you put into managing this complicated, ever changing disease. Today we attended our clinic day at the provincial children's hospital. We saw a medical student, the Endo, a CDE and a dietician. They all had the same message. Keep up the Good Work! Monday, 21 October 2013. Today, th...
